I'm in the middle of a 4 day major correction detail on a 2003 Range Rover. For the most part the correction is coming 99-100%, and I'm really jazzed about the results.... HOWEVER, what the heck is the deal with the bottom panels of the doors??? I don't know why, but they do NOT correct like the rest of the car at ALL....I went 1 pass with Menzerna 34A (1000-1500) and a Lake Country cutting pad...and the scratches LAUGHED at me! There was little to no correction at all....so weird considering the rest of the car corrected almost flawlessly after 2 hits of RD3.02 and an uber orange. anyone experience my pain?
not sure, the one I did last year had very soft paint and required a finsihing polish to finish up properly
Last time I worked with a 2 step polishing session on a silver Range Rover, I noticed that the lower panels on the doors were a plastic material and finished down much better with just the polishing step that the rest. I still achieved correction but I also used more pressure and found that the one challenge was that heat built up much more quickly. I credit this to the fact that it almost felt like plastic cladding, maybe a different paint process was used on those areas as opposed to the rest of the car?
DUde, I noticed the same thing...compound even left ZERO holograms...signs of SUPER DUPER hard clearcoat...this stuff is like grinding concrete!
I personally found no difference on a 05 that I recently polish. I was using medium level aggresive polishes on the rotary but found no real difference. Though I don't know why. Maybe it was just the one vehicle. I was using SIP and 106 on green and white polish pads via rotary - color was dark blue with metallic.
So did you ever figure out a plan of attack for those lower panels? I know dsms has done a rover or two and posted the write ups.
what ended up working was 3 aggressive, AGGRESSIVE hits with a Lake Country compounding pad and Menz Power Gloss....the clear coat was like nails man, but I EVENTUALLY got it 95%...some very deep unbudgable marks remained.
I did one ( Black of course) and had a similar combo, medium cut with yellow foam pad on the high speed buffer, after with the swirl remover an Orange foam pad and eventually finished with a black foam pad, I had a very hard time on the doors too, I'm not sure if it was because of the poor condition of the panels or suffering from the same problem as you did?
