I used a Mothers leather product and thought i did a good job..... My wife said if that is the best you can do you may as well find another profession to get into... of course half joking cause im in real estate bizz and do detailing for meditation.. She pulled out a secret leather product (which she claims is 15 years old given to her by an x who was in the Cdn army) she took a minicule amount and i swear i've never seen leather come alive ... from a dry looking alligator look to a creamy , polished fresh leather .... You can learn something from someone every day... I was blown away.... If your curious as to the product i will devulge the brand and country of origin upon request .... icture:
From Wikipedia. Dubbin is a wax product used to soften, condition and waterproof leather. It consists of natural wax, oil and tallow. It is different from shoe polish, which is used to impart shine and colour to leather. Dubbin has been used since medieval times to waterproof and soften leather boots. The name dubbin is a contraction of the gerund dubbing, describing the action of applying the wax to leather. Ongoing conjecture abounds[where?] about whether the constituents of dubbin promote rotting of the natural fibre stitching used to attach leather pieces together. There are centuries of experience that suggests it is safe, but selected pieces of literature have demonstrated some deleterious effects on high–order cellulose structures by bacteria which survive and propagate in the amino acids and fats contained in tallow, one of the chief ingredients of dubbin. Dubbin can also be used as a moisturiser and chain lubricant.
Wow..... did you do a wiki on that or did that just flow from your data bank ! Thanks you made me day and gave me a good chuckle... this forum is so full of useful info. i'm starting to really get the hang of my new hobby.... next i'm going to set up a professional detailing garage with lot of water, electricity and lighting..
Hmm, I have Dubbin here somewhere. We use(d) it on shoes. Wonder if there's any drawbacks using it on car interior leather....
Dubbin has been around for years but is for use on uncoated leather. More of a water proofer than a conditioner.
