does anyone know how to get rid of water spots?

Hi all, new to this site, I have a 04 maserati metalic blue, there are water spots on the top surfaces of the car including the glass, I tried mothers polish and fine cut cleaner with no results, I used an orbital buffer. does anyone have any sugestions.. thanks

Try Vinegar, or a chemical paint cleaner, or a more aggressive compound like Megs 105.

 

I don't think a picture will show the spots, they are only noticable in garage lighting. they are hard to see but I know they are there so it bothers me. I know it sounds crazy but I need my paint to be perfect. I can't tell if the spots are etched in the clearcoat or not, but seeing them on the glass tells me there not. I will try some vinager, or maybe someone will have the exact answer. thanks

CG water spot remover. apply and remove by hand (several apps.maybe needed) rinse

there is also DuraGloss water spot remover OTC @ carquest havent used that product though

 

What type of orbital buffer was it? Was it a PC? You might not be using something aggressive enough.

 

For the glass, try Duragloss Glass Polish. I have great success with it using just a MF applicator or foam applicator. Put a dab on the applicator and spritz with water. This will thin out the polish and make it easy to work as well as way easier to remove. If that doesn't work, get your hands on a PC and white pad and follow the same instructions. For the paint, try a mild polish with a LC hand polish applicator (available from me or PAC )

 

Just so you can't say no one told you...they MAY be (i don't know obviously since I haven't seen them), but they MAY be unremovable without a possible remedy of wetsanding.

I had water etching on my M3 when I bought it, and multiple passes with compound and a rotary only lessened them...I eventually repainted the hood, roof, and trunk lid ... when the painter told me the etch marks were all the way to the METAL!!!!!! OUCH

not saying this is your case, just wanted you to know it IS possible.

yeah the CG waterspot remove actually works. if you go down to chemical guys in inglewood, Paul will actually take the stuff outside and test it on the spots to make sure it solves the problem before you buy it.

 

never tried the CG stuff but MX7 works great . . . . . as mentioned for the top use a more aggressive polish. Perhaps something like Menzerna Power Finish would do the trick.

 

I would definitely go with a water spot remover, it will safely remover the deposits without the need for buffing. We use this one at the shop
