Dont even think about it. Mold is like a living breathing infection. You have to KILL it. The problem is, You cant kill it in cushions. You wont be able to get to the root. If it was me, I'd walk away, fast. Or replace everything. Joe D.
Wow. And like the previous post there is no saving that vehicle without replacing most of that interior. I clean mold as a job in houses and can say even if you clean it there is no way you would get to every spore which could start growing all of that mold again within 48 hrs. If you are going to attempt it then get a hepa vac and some biocide to remove it and wear a respirator. How did the car get that bad anyways
The owner told me. It was park on driveway for about two weeks. Apparently it was triggered by a bad AC unit. I was feeling confident about doing it. I could use the money but now I am not sure. I remove mold before but nothing like this. If I do it i will get the hepa vac and biocide.
i woudlnt go anywhere near that. as it has been said, you are looking at risking serious medical issues if you accidentally inhale or consume mold of that nature. that is a borderline HAZMAT situation. any clothes you would wear if you take the job need to be thrown away or destroyed. plus you are risking contaminating your equipment as well. and trust me, you will not be able to get rid of the source of the mold in those seats. even if you were able to clean it good, the owner of the car is risking medical issues if he/she were to continue driving the vehicle and breathing the residual mold particulate/spores. also keep in mind the AC/heat system would need to be completely sanitized as well, including all vents and heating and cooling components.
although you might be able to kill the mold out of plastic, any of those cloth seats will be to be thrown away...Not worth it...
Tell the owner that his car is done, it is now likely a LEVEL 2 BIOHAZARD. It is no longer a matter of how to safely clean it, it is a matter of how to safely dispose of it. Hopefully you never personally inspected this vehicle. CALL THE CDC! One of these signs on the window would be a good idea too.
