The story behind this car, is enough to make any proper detailer's head spin! This 2006 Audi A6, in black of course, was in dire need of a restoring detail. The owner was looking to get the paint back to the way it should be, after suffering some improper buffing and other defects. When we prepped the car, we found that hood had an almost matte finish to it, under the fluorescent lights. Upon closer inspection, the flat look was a result of buffer trails that weren't properly finished down after an obvious high speed passing with the rotary. The paint was tested throughout the vehicle to see if it had been compromised in any other areas, after a slightly varying result in some places we decided the plan of attack was going to change throughout the car. The front end correction took Nick 4 hours alone, not including the bumper, and the results speak for themselves in the pictures! The car was fully corrected by us and the owner even had the fortunate opportunity to hang out with us while we finished it! After a long night, we sent her home with expectations to see the car back to finish up the interior and get some outside photos in the daylight....or so we thought. A few days later, the owner had emailed Nick, rather upset about the car. Which he had taken in for service, with strict instructions not to wash and notes on the repair order and so forth. However, the car had been washed anyway and some damage was already immediately noticeable. After discussing things with the dealer, they sent him a check to have the car redone by us. So we got to see it again! Will say this, upon it's return and follow up correction, must say we were impressed with the damage that was managed by the dealership. It was clear in certain places where the edges of the broom style brushes contacted the paint and the straight back and forth motions were clear on the hood and sides. A total of 6 days were spent correcting this car between two separate details, and finally sent home the way she should look! Gordeous work on a beatiful car! I see you guys are using blue tape instead of green, I tried it recently and like it so much better then green, as I don't have to deal with that sticky residue every time I go over the tape with a rotary...
we used blue the first time, then we switched to green, i love it couse how flexible it is and how you can strech it to curve over curved surfaces, as you can see on second detail we used green tape, i guess there i didnt put too many taped up pics, gona see if i can find them http://i600.photobucket.com/albums/tt90/oakesdetail/Audi/A6084.jpg
Unless I'm taping up plastic trim on BMW, I try to use blue tape, only because it I polish over it, I don't have to deal with a sticky residue...On plastic trim I have to use green tape, because blue constantly is peeling off. BTW, how hard was the paint?
no audi is not as hard as BWM or MB ceramic. i worked on M3 ceramic but thats whole another level hard
Great work & turn around on this A6. Fantastic correction with superb results & nice reflection shots. Really suprised at the swirl makrs caused by Dealership bearing in mind how hard Audi paint is. What on earth did they use?!
I know this is a bit of an old thread, but what did you use to clean up the scratches on the wood trim? I have the same interior and I have no idea to how to get rid of them. Please help a fellow Russian. Hahaha.
^^^ i think i used 2" wool pad and 4" orange pad and i think menzerna 203. yes i used PC inside of the car lol.
Looks great! This is why I'm SO glad the local VW dealer doesn't even wash the cars they service, my paint isn't perfect but it still looks pretty good and I don't want it screwed up
i have no idea if its clear coated. sure does look like it since im sure its some kinda print with coating on it. if it is clear then its pretty hard, was not easy to get scratches out
