This week I carried out a Medium External Correction and stone chip repair on a Mercedes-Benz C220 in Metallic Black. The car was originally at OCD several months ago for a light prep before having some body kit fitted, and a full interior detail then returned to get tidied up, however with tar being put down etc etc several months had passed before it could be left back over. On arrival the car was covered in general swirls and had very bad rash to the bonnet and front bumper. The bumper was tidied as best as I could but really needs repainted as there were literally hundreds of chips over the lower quarter. The bonnet had about 30 chips that needed filling and levelling so it was going to be a LONG slow week!!! Here is the car when it originally arrived as I did not take pics of the second time I washed it as the owner has taken great care in perfecting his wash process.

Car washed using a 2 bucket method:
    • Car pre-soaked in citrus degreaser. Then my own blend of citrus prewash snow foam applied and left to dwell.
    • Car rinsed and refoamed with PH neutral snow foam again using my new snow foam blend.
    • Rinsed then sprayed with Tardis a panel at a time to remove tar. Then rinsed.
    • Wheel arches washed, tar removed and dried.
    • Wheels washed and tar deposits removed and dried.

A lot of bonded contamination this was even after being heavily treated with tardis.

Onto the correction process, after several combinations I settled for:
Finally I got a perfect combo of

    • 3M Yellow waffle pad with Maguire’s #105 (2 pea sized blobs and for nasty areas I used 3M Fast Cut Plus again on a 3M yellow waffle pad.
    • My routine for correction was:
    Spread at 600rpm
Begin working at 1200rpm, light pressure to get residue evenly spread to start correction.
Work at 2000rpm, medium pressure working up to heavy pressure towards the end.
As residue began to go clear, reduce pressure for a couple of final passes at 2000rpm.
    Reduce speed to 1200rpm.
    • Then for perfecting the finish, 3M Yellow waffle pad with Maguire’s #205 worked until all marks were taken care of.
Finally to sharpen the Finish I used 3M Perfect-it Machine polish on a Blue 3M waffle pad using the following method.
    Spread at 600rpm
Start at 1200rpm, light pressure and slow movements evenly spreading the polish
Work at 1500rpm, medium pressure with steady movements. Then finally reducing pressure whilst speeding up machine movement
Refine at 1200rpm, light pressure and slow to medium movement.
Finally, burnish at 900rpm, with slow machine movements, with very light pressure.
    Here are the pictures:

Once the correction work was complete, the car was pulled outside and washed to remove all the dust, dried and brought back in for the LSP stage. For this car we Decided on Raceglaze Carnauba wax polish, as the owner wants to be able to put his own LSP on as he likes “waxing” his own car on a regular basis, so it was agreed not to put anything too long lasting on, that he could add to when he wants. This was then topped off with Zaino Z6.

The interior was hoovered out and the glass all cleaned as a wee finishing touch to complete the car.

All plastics were dressed and buffed down.

    Now for the finished shots:
