My example was not of an investment car - investment cars don't cost anything close to the amount of money we are talking about here... My point was to show that someone can use the car and then sell it for almost the same price it was bought for. There are plenty of cars that can fit into this category. You don't like Porsche? Well, Nissan 350z, Ford Mustang or plenty of others... There are people who purchse these old cars, but I can hardly think of anyone who would want to buy a 10 year old Scion or Lexus... Cheers!
Agree to disagree. But there are too many factors to assume he'd get his money back. Its his first car. The chances of the only thing changing on that car besides the mileage are slim to none. He'd have a better chance of recouping his money with a civic.
If anything I would most likely loose little to none. IS300's in Canada where I live are easily over 10k with decent millage. My uncle in the states and my cousin have a body shop/ repairs so they have access to dealer auctions. Even with the cost to import I would be saving as much as 2k, but over the course of 4 years or more, its obvious it will depcreciate but likely that it wont be much. My plans are to sell it some time in University and get an S2K, but with all the costs I doubt I can make it happen. Thanks for all the input, hoping to get some more
I have an IS300 for sale if you are interested! It is less then your budget so you will have some money left over to do some things to it! Where are you from?
I currently drive a 2003 IS300, and it's a great car, but if you choose to buy one you have to take into account that it is RWD, and cannot be driven in snow without snow tires. Even with snow tires, it will occasionally get stuck in deep snow. Also, this car can get you in a lot of trouble very quickly if you try to push things in the corners . I don't know how old you are, or your level of experience, but you may want to pass on a RWD car this time around if you aren't an experienced driver.
Where are you located in PA? Send me a PM. My car took a dump this past week. I've been trying to avoid buying a vehicle, but I think I might have buy one anyways.
GTi or Lexus for sure. All I've ever owned are VWs and Audis. As for manual vs auto, for low hp I'd go with manual but my Passat is 300hp and works very well with the auto. 0-60 is sub 6 second. Quick enough for a daily driver.
I would get the is300 out of everything on the list.. I don't know if this is a factor to you or not, but when I was looking to get a 06 GTI my insurance quote was almost $3k/year and the is300 was around $1100 per year. Just some food for thought PS. My insurance quotes were from 2 years ago.
Yeah, I am a new driver and with the IS300 winter tires would be a MUST. I didn't driver last winter, so this one would be the first, but we dont have too much snow here. (Only 3 nice snow falls last year each 5-10cm)
As long as the tires are good, it isnt that bad for a RWD car. they handle awesome, and the TCS is on point... snow driving isnt the best but coming into a corner fast there is no issue for sure
How is the Acura RSX Type-S. I only drove the base model, as I can't drive stick. Price wise its in and around that budget, and seems like a quick car. Can I get some thoughts?
My ex-gf drove one (aka i drove it everywhere) for the 3 years we were together. Not a bad little car. Im 6'2 and the head room got a little tight for me. I guess thats the only real complaint I had with it. It was a mechanically sound car. But her family kept up with the maintenance of their cars. And I wouldnt call it quick. But again..that's all relative to what you think quick is.
