Acura TL type S in for a complete new car prep detail for a new owner who bought the car used.

I washed this car in the evening as it was cooler outside.

    Wheels filthy before

Sonax applied to dry wheel... oooh I wish polishes turned red when to tell you when all the defects are gone, this should be a feature in every detail product.

    After

Clayed the car and performed 2 IPA wipedowns before correction.

Owner asked for dealer sticker to be removed, I obliged maturely :drinking2:

This is a great way to have a new client never come back to you again for detail work...

Some 3M adhesive remove removed the residual glue

Finished (from after the polishing and LSP)

Paint correction consisted of Menzerna 106FA on a white pad using the Metabo at about 1500rpm

After that and another IPA wipedown the paint was cleaned using Werkstat Prime on a finishing pad with a DA to prep for the AJT LSP, Prime was left to cure for about 10 minutes before buffing off, IME waiting longer makes it a bit grabby to take off clean.

No correction shots as there was not much to capture at all on the silver paint

    Lights got SIP and 85rd

    Before

End of day 1 left with all polishing done and the first of 4 coats of Werkstat AJT applied to the paint, plus I used the leatherique twins on the front seats to remove a slight oily appearance and restore a very natural matte finish

Leatherique Rejuv. Oil was heated up via heat gun on low setting 3-4 times before removing with pristine clean the following day

LSP: 4 coats Werkstat AJT over 2 days

    Finished shots

    Not bad for silver

Sunshot on plastic trim (correction prior with SIP and 85rd) LSP on this was Menzerna Powerlock as it looks sharper on black than Werkstat IMO

    Inside for final wipedown

    Interior finished

Super shiny tires ... my signature move :headbang:

    Final shot

Thanks for looking. My recent writeups have been a bit shorter as I just dont have the time to do step by step pics but my next writeup will be much more extensive.

Finally a short little video walkaround... taken with my phone

    David,
When I saw how curbed that back wheel was, I thought for a second you were detailing my wifes car..

    Splendid job, as always.

I have a question, the adhesive that Paul Millers assasins leave behind on the wheels after a rebalance - can that be removed using that 3M stuff? I'm talking about the white tape AND the black stuff that almost seems welded on.

If you can.. I'd appreciate it.

I love Acura's, especially that model of Acura. I have not seen many with that light colored interior before, that is interesting.

I know that silver looks much better in person, but what little life it provides in pictures you captured it well.

man i always thought that TL-S rims were graphite or gunmetal in color LoL. Must just be all the break dust that is stuck on them that i see in which gives off that appearance.

Nice work. You managed to capture some good after shots as silver can get blown out real quick especially in direct sunlight.

    Nice work

    Great job as usual ...

I would love to own one of those ... They actually made about 1000 Type-S with 6 spd and they are hard to find. I found one around here and they were asking 29k for it. About 20k out of my budget ... lol

You will need something stronger to get that white tape and other stuff off, even tardis doesnt usually work that well on that. Lots of elbow grease needed

Im sorry I thought my profound love of SV Pneu was well known on here :thumb:

    Thanks Brendan!

    Amazing work David!
I know you weren't doing full correction on this car, but what was your impression of the clear coat? Got a hammered black TL that needs to be done, and I always dread doing Jap cars for some reason :shead:

yeah wouldn't that be something if it became a industry standard to make it so things change color.

Say polishes and compounds change color once they have broken down and wheel cleaners change color once they have started working and eating away at the brake dust.

    sick

I think the 6sp. Acuras a bit of hassle being front wheel drive, from what I hear the torque steer on these cars is bad to begin with and the manual trans just makes it more noticeable.

Most Japanese paints are nice to work with, I would expect the same for your black TL when you do it. Shouldnt be hard to cut through or too soft to finish down, and IMO thats the best combo you could ask for.

Great car, great work, and great write up. :thumb:

Better than color changing products, is there something we could create to make owners change colors until they realized they need to pay us to maintain their stuff? ;)

Yeah, I know...there isn't many front wheel drive cars I like, and this is one of them...torque steer is it's main problem...the only reason I wanna stay away from automatics TLs, I had a few friends+co-workers that had automatic transmission fail on them on TLs and CLs at around 70-80k miles...heck, my younger brother has a 2003 type S, and he just had his tranny rebuild...and that cost him over $1000... Automatics on TLs really suck...Although 2000 TL I had a while back never had those problems. I had it for 3 years (39k-87k miles) and never had ANY problems with the tranny...
But I do get the point - the joy of driving comes from rear wheel drive!

To my knowledge that issue has been resolved with the newer models (2004 and newer). I do know the the 04-late 05's 6 speeds had issues and Acura was rebuilding them at no charge. I don't remember what it was, but I don't think it was the syncros.
