On CA there are a lot of "is this fake?" threads. It's fun to see how bad some of the fakes are. But if someone doesn't smoke cigars and has no idea what a real one looks like I guess they would fall for anything.
OMGOMGOMG! I work at a cigar store, I love cigars, I skipped through this thread with excitement, Congrats on joining the Cigar craze Pektel! We need as many smokers helping out the local humidors and lounges, especially if Obama gets his people to pass another killer tobacco tax. AND TO D&D AUTO DETAILING, idk what your asking about that band, but if your wondering if it is a cuban, it is, it looks real to me, its a partagas petit corona, theyre a great smoke, I think those are called shorts. And Pektel, go to your local shop and ask for some Ashton ESG's Opus X 22's Illusion MJ12's Graycliff white box Pirates. Those are my daily smokes, Im at 4 cigars a day, I hate it and love it. Btw Generally anything aged and domincan blows away a Cuban. Cubans are really, well, lets say if they were legal, they wouldnt be popular.

how is it wrong!??, Its more of an opinion, a huge percentage of cubans are fake anyway, Cubans, some are great smokes, but seriousley, ask any big cigar smoker, theyll tell you domincans are so much better. Its a prefference yes, but everyone I smoke with, even the DOC prefers domincans over cubans, so let your head hurt. And I guessed on the band because Ive had that one.
I have a whole box of Party shorts and I couldn't guess the vitola that band was around. I've yet to find a cigar that beats a properly stored habano here in the states. Opus are too strong (and rare and expensive), Ashton VSG/ESG are strong and expensive. I can buy boxes of my favorite habanos for less than some "mid range" Dominican boxes here. No contest.
I own a cigar store in Ontario. Using distilled is best. PG is covienient and almost maintenance free. Purists use distilled water due to it being the least intrusive way to keep humidity at acceptable levels. Also, using distilled requires you keeping aneye on your humi. It's a great hobby. I enjoy my herfing, but some Cubans can cost more that a tin of good polish lololol. And IMHO cubans are considered the best source of tobacco in the world. Its not the seed, it's the components of the soil that grows great tobacco. Taste is also subjective and of ones own opinion. In mine, Dominicans can't hold it when compared to a Cuban. But thats whats great about all the brands, like scotch and beer, everyone has a preference. If they dont have cigars in heaven I'm not going!
Yep. And as long as you go through official Habanos S.A channels the chances of getting a fake are very, very very slim. Habanos S.A. - Sitio Oficial - Distribuidores Exclusivos Here's a list of distributors in the "Americas", meaning pretty much everything but North America. Then of course theres Europe, Africa & Middle East and Asia and Far east. Knowing your marka/vitola along with the obvious warnings signs on warranty seals/labels will help you from getting burned. Any good vendor will take back your suspect boxes no questions asked. Having a personal relationship with them and knowing them by name, and them knowing you by name helps immensely as well.
Yeah I agree with the counterfeiting issue. There are so many fakes out there, as with any brand labelling really. It got so bad that I saw a RyJ Churchill band photocopied onto yellow paper and glued onto a standard churhill sized nasty looking thing, and they were trying to sell them for $40. As long as your stock comes from Habanos SA you should be fine. We get ours through Havana House which is the "approved distributor" in Canada for retailers to get thier stock. Not to say there arent many fly by nighters ordering from switzerland and other parts of europe and asia floggin their wares lololol. I wish it werent so with all the copy cats because lighting up up what you though was a authentic cuban really blows when it tatstes like bananna leaves lolol. I will ponder that as I light up my Behike 54 later tonight. Hope its better than the Cohiba GR. There was way too much hype on the GR, IMO. Dam i love cigars! lolololol
Behikes are too damn expensive. In general the Cohiba brand itself seems to command more for the name than anything. I actually much prefer a Bolivar or Partagas or even a Sancho Panza
They are pricey no doubt about that. I do like me some boli BF and Sanchos B. Although I've been on a HdM EE kick lately, must go good with the cubita coffee lol.
I don't drink coffee so I've never paired a cigar with it. I would imagine a Montecristo would go best as those seem to have nutty/chocolate tastes to them. I could see that going with coffee.
Cubans are much stronger than Dominicans, VSGS ESGS OPUS X are not rare, at least here, and not expensive at all. Maybe its where you are the prices are crazy, but in the northeast, not at all, and you talk a big cuban game for calling other cigars expensive.
A VSG Robusto is $10 around here. I can get some Cuban robusto's for less than that. Of course if I buy a box the price per stick drops. if you live in the north east and can get around to a holts, sure Opus X aren't rare. But around here I've managed, in the past 5 years to stumble across them ONCE by pure luck. AND the tobacco shop only lets you buy 1 of each vitola because they only have a box of each and don't want one or two customers swooping in to buy them all. Opus X "Power Ranger" was $12 here. That's expensive for that size smoke. Ashton ESG's are even more than the VSGs. That's before tax too!
I just finished a punch London club maduro and I was thoroughly impressed. Watching and Listening to my dad talk and rave about cigars I had formed an impression that anything under $10 is trash boy was I wrong. He is a cigar snob though or was I should say he stopped a few years ago. But his collection is similar to mindflux except with mostly high end cubans which I hope to get a crack at!
You all have me wanting to smoke a good cigar now. I live in Ohio and we have a decent cigar shop close, it is in a crazy grocery store called Jungle Jim's that imports stuff from all around the world. I stopped smoking cigarettes about 2 weeks ago so the urge for something in my hand still lingers. I will have to go by the some the suggestions that ppl have mentioned and report back.
