Black Wow (BW) can be a PITA and definitely has a learning curve. A steady hand and using it conservatively can yield some very nice results. If not used correctly, it can become greasy and messy. I've been using it here and there for a year or so and wanted to share my tricks on using it.

    Here are some tips:

    1. Many of you who ordered the 5 Raceglaze brush set are looking for a use for the bottom three. The smallest one I like to use on cowls and harder to reach areas to apply dressing. I use it here in the wiper cowl to get in the cracks and hard spots that it would be a pain to reach with an applicator.

    2. Do NOT put your wiper arms down until you are finished. You don't want Black Wow on your wiper blades.

    3. Keep a bottle of Isopropyl Alcohol with you (50/50) for two reasons...
    a. prepping the plastic
    b. cleaning the excess BW off of windows and painted parts, mistakes happen

    4. Wear soft clothing, because even at 6'4 I had to use a crate to reach all the way to the middle of the cowl on my Xterra.

    Tools/Products needed

    Black Wow (duh)
    Yellow Foam Applicator
    Isopropyl Alcohol 50/50
    3 rounds of microfiber towels:

    a.prepping with Isopropyl
    b.buffing off Black Wow initially
    c.buffing off after water spraydown

Smallest Raceglaze (or equivalent) brush, not necessary but I recommend it highly as it makes it easier on your fingertips and it makes the process quicker.
    Spray bottle with distilled water

    Ok, now here's the process.

Apply BW using a foam applicator and a small brush, use this product extremely sparingly. Here I have some examples of where the brush comes in handy.

Buff of excess after waiting 10+ minutes for product to soak in.

Here is what you are left with. Looks great, a tad greasy.

As the instructions state, a second pass with water is needed to make the application more even as well as remove a lot of the greasy feel. Time to use the distilled water and new microfiber.

Spray water liberally on the trim

Wipe excess with the new towel

Done. Here is what you are left with. It's hard to tell, but it's a bit more even and a lot of the slick greasy feel has gone away, although not quite entirely. It's definitely an improvement, and mind you this is directly after applicator. I'm sure the sun will do it's work making it soak in more.

This is a product that I feel should give really good results but I've always been a bit spotty with (pun accurate). I'll have to see if you're tips help me any. - especially the second spray with water. I've always done this before a wash and then used the wash instead of the last spritz with water.

Feel free to spray it more than once. I think it helped a little more.

Very nice, thanks for the tip. I just received my BW last week and used it on my car this weekend, it was a bit splotchy in some areas but I did not spray with water afterwards. Thanks again, I will try this out and see if it works for me.

What kind of durability do people get with Black Wow? I hear some people say that it's resistant for at least a month, and others say that because it's water-based, it will wash away after a heavy rain storm.

At least a month. It's a really nice product provided you use it properly. It isn't water based, the back of the bottle says silicone based (reason why it's a pain in the ass to remove from paint). Dave used it on the red 3-series to restore the mirror arms, turned out really nice.
