imho apple has done a couple of things. first of all you are correct. they have great marketing and have managed to keep their phone fresh in the eyes of the public even though it's like 3 years old. but the real thing is usability. i'm fairly computer savvy and can figure out how to use most things, but my wife is not. it took her about 2 minutes to learn how to setup an iphone, link it to her email, import her contacts, etc. she had a droid and couldn't figure it out to save her life. apple's ui is just simpler and easier without dumbing down the function.

We've got all kinds of phones in the house here, from Blacberrys, to Nokias, to Samsungs, to HTCs to iPhones. For me, the iPhone is still my absolute favorite. You just cannot beat it.

The biggest success that Apple has done is not just providing a tool to consumers, but essentially making their brand a fashion statement and icon. There are also many advantages to buying an Apple product such as arguably one of the best user interfaces, as well as brand recognition and high resale value. Case in point: many are selling their old iPhones for the same amount they bought them for years later.

I personally am not a huge fan of Apple products simply because of the people who buy them. I have an iPod, but I will never get an iPhone simply because I see a phone as a tool and therefore the Android alternatives offer much more bang for the buck in terms of applications, service, technological superiority, and variety.

    I agree.

And also people seem to forget that iPhones only cost $199 ... considering its top competitors from HTC and Motorola costs the exact same, clearly they make a decision based on the product itself.

If iPhone was $500 than easily it can be said the other devices are way to similar and there is no reason to have an iPhone but if there are all about the same price, and people who OWN iPhones, not those who watch bad antenna videos on youtube, are extremely happy with them than whats the big deal?

We all have a CHOICE in buying the phones we want, those who CHOOSE to buy iPhones seems to be pretty damn happy. And as Steve Jobs said yesterday, if you are not happy with the iPhone, just return it.

I have an iPhone 4, I hold it properly when making calls and I have not had a dropped call. Me = Happy customer.

the best thing to do when buying a new phone is to do what i did . figure out what do you really need in a phone? for me it was fast texting /pics /video and easy acsess to internet. and the verizon tech narrowed it down to a few . and i picked the samsung. it was easy to use and had what i needed .. the days of buying the latest and greatest forme isnt needed if you dont use half the functions....

I hate how much control apple/steve jobs has over what you can do with the phone. i like the openness of the android platform and android 2.2 (froyo) looks amazing.

another thing that i cant stand about apple products is that they seem really trendy or hipster-ish. the os is nice, but im just sick of it after owning an ipod touch for over a year and when i updated to iOS4 i was disappointed to see that nothing really changed

Quite a bit actually changed for the iPhones over the iTouch though, especially 3GS versions.

My wife and I have iPhones b/c:
    - We like simplicity in the phone
    - We have many itunes purchases songs/shows, etc
    - We have a few Macs and PCs
    - The AT&T plan for more than one only added about $30/mo to her original plan

My only regret - AT&T. Once the iPhone comes out for Verizon, I'm jumping ship to a different carrier. AT&T is fast, if you get reception. Their latest commercial of "covers 97% of the US population" includes all variations of comms (GSM, Edge, and 3G). Their 3G map is still horrible compared to almost every other carrier.

Besides multitasking and changing wallpaper, dont see what has changed. im jailbroken, so the whole wallpaper thing wasnt even noticed

another point that people bring up when comparing the iphone to other phones is the number of apps that are available and how nobody can beat that, but most of them are crApps anyway that just sit there and boost apple glorified numbers.

Although that might be true, I am a real stickler on having a "neat" phone. I have a very limited amount of Apps, and if I download an App and I don't like it, I immediately erase it. I love the simplistic design of the phone, along with the fantastic user interface.

My work phone is an HTC Snap and the Windows-based OS is definitely unstable, slow, and difficult to use.

Do a lot of douchebags hipsters/trendsters have Apple products? Sure. But a lot of douchebags also drive BMWs, and I'd still buy one.

yeah. microsoft needs to stay away from phones. and that bmw comment is so true. i cry whenever i see a 330i zhp (my fav) in the hands of someone that probably has no clue what a sparkplug is :'(

Comparing the phones is like comparing cars. A hyundai sonata (not that I'm saying your phone is a sonata) will get you to point a to point b, might have bluetooth so you can talk hands free, a back up camera, xenon headlights, a good engine but a mercedes e class will do or have all that, but in a better fashion, such as a better quality back up camera, or a wider angle for the light output on the headlights.

To end this argument, Thomas, just get a Garmin GPS phone...you get a phone, fast text+internet AND GPS all in one...:headbang: Or get a satellite phone brick...
I just hate when I walk into at&t store and tell them I want an upgrade, and then they tell me that I need to get an Iphone? WTF? Please let ME CHOOSE a phone I want...
Wonder if Apple pays them additional commission to sell their phone...

Just stick with your Samsung, Tom...
