So my new puppy decided to help me wash my car the other night :yikes: He knows not to jump up on cars, well I though he did, but he was all worked up over something and had a lapse in judgment. As soon as I yelled to get off he knew he did wrong... Anyways, he left some light scratches in the car. Got a chance tonight after taking care of the yard so I figured I would try and remove them. Taped of the panel and thought I stripped the finish... (panel had 2 coats of Menzerna power lock and topped with 2 coats of P21S 'nuba) I used IPA wipe down 91% 1:1 with water. I soaked and wiped a few times and it seemed as though the LSPs were off. Pulled out the ol' PC with a Uber blue and Menzerna 106FA. Couple of easy passes and all the scratches were off. Wiping off the compound I noticed that where I didn't compound yet was crazy slick, but where I compounded grabbed the microfiber a bit. :shead: I figure the IPA didn't remove the LSP like I had thought, to make sure I got a good base to reapply the Power Lock I just hit the panel with a pass of the 106FA and it took the slickness away. Applied the first coat of Power Lock 2nd will go on tomorrow night and I will 'nuba it over the weekend when I reapply to the whole car... But... How do you guys remove the LSP on a panel for an area to be corrected? I figured the IPA would be more then enough... Should I use something like P21S Total wash in the future? :help:
The IPA is more than enough, plus the 106 will remove what's left if any. What kind of durability are you getting out of PL? I know you have P21s as a topper so it may prolong the life of PL.
Hmmm.. Maybe because I cut it with water? I thought 4 wipe downs was enough guess I was wrong! Car isn't my daily driver, more of a nice day car. It has seen rain a few times since sealing and a few baths over the past month, so I can't really speak to the longevity... But I can say this... If 4 wipe downs with IPA doesn't remove it, it's got to last a real long time!
If polishing, I never bother with a IPA wipe down. Only after polishing will I do a IPA or mineral sprits wipe down to clean the oils out of the surface to inspect before lsp.
Wait, the part where you just corrected felt like normal paint, while the part that still had the LSP on it was really slick? That's how it's supposed to feel. The microfiber was probably grabbing onto the residual oils from the polish.
It may be silicone that is giving you grief Preparation- If the car has been treated with silicone, use a wax and grease remover to remove as much of the silicone as possible before polishing. I guess it is hard to explain. The area I compounded felt like it normally does after a correction and a wipe down, the area I didn't compound felt like it does after applying power lock. So one area was very slick feeling the other slick but not as much. You could feel the transition between the two when wiping the panel down again. Just thought it was interesting that the IPA didn't seem to remove the LSP as I thought it would. Maybe I needed to do a few more wipe downs or let it dwell a bit longer....
if there is still some LSP traces on that panel and you tried to correct it with a polish, it's going to be grabby. I found that PowerLock is very hard to remove Which is a good thing I suppose ha!
Never thought it would be the other way around but it could be possible... Checked the panel today and it looks good, another coat tonight when I get home then 'nuba this weekend... I am just happy the scratches are gone!
