Since they both have a lifetime warranty, I would go with the set that has the better socket/bit variety. If they both have what you are looking for and you have no brand preference, I would go with the Mastercraft set that gives you more pieces.

I think I may go with the Stanley even though it has less variety. After reading the reviews everybody has been very happy with it. They also have a pretty good reputation. Thanks though.

both are great value. I have a similar mastercraft set I've had for 7 years. I can't tell you how much money that thing has saved me.

I've done 4 engine swaps, transmissions, two differentials, rebuilt a motor, suspension brakes....I work on my car almost every weekend.

it's difficult to tell what hs what by the website. both are quality sets. Stanley makes mastecraft tools if I remember correctly. there are only a handful of tool manufacturers for the entire industry.

I would look at them in person and I recommend looking for a couple things

    1) the huge piece count "260 piece!" sets usually attribute to small crap that you'll never use, like screw driver heads and security bits. most if not all of the sets, so don't let that fool you. most contain the samin amount of sockets

    2) I use 1/4" drive stuff more than anything else, the largest selection of those sockets is helpful.

    3) deep sockets are also incredibly handy, and more expensive....look for the set that has more of these.

Finally, and mot importantly is the case quality! this can really only be examined in person. look at the latch and hinge construction. even if one set is missing a few pieces over another, I'd go with the one with the better case. unless you're putting these tools in a chest, a broken case a couple years down the road will make your life a living hell everytime you want to take it somewhere.

Very well said, looks like the Stanley case is a lot better from the reviews. I'll take a look at it in person later on today. Thanks for the advice, very much appreciated!

I would go for the stanley because of the deep socket. pretty handy if you want to take off rims.
maybe I should go get the Stanley set too. How is detailing, Brendan, haven't seen you post for awhile.

Just got back from CT. Dom detailing is good I just haven't been detailing in a long time because of my exams. After exams I'm booked till the end of the month and into July.

nice purchase! I didn't realize the stanley set had the push-release for the socket retention. nice feature, in this case, the Stanley set is definitely superior.

that set has too many tools, I doubt you will use 90% of them, but at $100, it is not bad.
