Yup, it's funeral home time again. I've said it before and I'll say it again..if you are a detailer whose source of income is solely detailing and you haven't been talking to your local funeral homes..you're missing a huge business opportunity. They need to keep their cars pristine and don't have time to do proper washing techniques so their large cars need a good amount of correction. This one is a 2008 Caddy Hearse. In spite of its relatively young age, it had a lot of scratches, mainly from using an f'n water blade...man I hate those things! The lighting where I started it was not great so it was hard to capture the defects. The car looked more grey than black. I moved the car to better lighting and coincidentally, to a part of the garage that had an overhead A/C unit!! I was hired for paint correction only as well as sprucing up the chrome and stainless. The Process: Washing was done with ONR as it was dusty. The wheels and tires were not done. At that point I was not told to do the wheels yet. Paint Correction: The clear on this was of medium hardness. The scratches that were on the top surfaces (hood and tops of fenders) were difficult to remove. The hood had an average paint thickness of 109 microns and the sides had more. For the most difficult scratches, I used a Megs burgandy wool pad and Power Gloss. I followed this up with an orange pad and Megs 105. That was followed by a white flat LCC pad and UCCL. I tried my new white Kompressor pad and I found it did not finish down as nicely as the flat pad does. Sure felt different using it though..I need to play with it more. This car was not the one to do so since it's so big. That step was followed by a blue LCC pad and Megs 85rd. The protection for this car was to be the triple coat I have recently used which is DG 601/501 and then 601/105 followed by Collinite. To save time later, I switched to 601/501 and then a double coat of Collinite. Looked the same...should protect about the same too I think. I got about 90-95% correction on this...I wasn't going to chase the deeper scratches that wouldn't come out after 3 passes of 105 and wool. This car actually would have been an excellent candidate for BHAB. I am going to try it on the next one on Thursday. Anyway...or anywho as Carlos says, I was getting pretty damned good at finishing down with the Megs burg wool pad and Megs 105...all the sides got this as there were no scratches there. Check out this pic with just 105 and the wool: Here is a before and after of the side of it. I taped for good measure. Bloody fantastic to have an air conditioned garage (mine is too): Wheels: Gorgeous Caddy chrome. I ended up polishing them too as an after thought. Did them with DG 501 and followed up with Collinite 845. Head/Tail Lights: These got compounded with my little 2" wool pad with M105 and then with a 2" orange pad with UCCL. Protected with DG 501. BEFORES: AFTERS: Just my luck, it was starting to rain, so I very quickly snapped some outside shots and then brought it back in and shot a couple more after wiping it down. All in all, a 10 hour job. Thanks for looking.

I was not supposed to have to clean it..that should have been already done for me but it got overlooked which is why I did the ONR wash. That's why no clean tires, wheels, wells or anything. I'm sure you would. It is noticeable in the pics, I'll admit that. But, like I explained above, not what I was hired for. Thanks Pat.

Waseem...I made up a Power Point of my work, my processes, etc to explain detailing to people. I have yet to not receive a job from someone to whom I gave the disc to. If you PM me, I can email it to you to look at. It's cheap to make up and a very effective tool to introduce yourself to someone. Gives you something to hand them when you go cold calling. Tape your business card to the inside of the CD cover.
