what would be more aggressive with a pc after m105 / yellow uber pad?
i was thinking m105 and purple foamed wool. then some one suggested diamond cut and a yellow pad? have run into several cars that 2-3 passes with the m105 and yellow did not remove everything. now to be honest it only left those faint swirls that it takes just the right angle on the brinkman or led light to see. i dont think you would ever see them in regular conditions but i would like the abilty to remove them

these are severe swirls that where there from the start. and simply where not removed . when i say faint i meant that they where severe and after the three passes they are less noticeable. i see how my post could be taken as saying holograms.

I say Menz Power Gloss is pretty aggressive. Now I'm confused for yalls posts haha. After the compound you of course have to go to a polish to remove swirling from compounding.

If 3 hits of m105 on a uber yellow didnt take it out wet sanding with 2500 may be next option if you have a paint thickness gauge. But, I would try M105 on a wool pad. Wool cuts better, finishing better so less polishing you will have to do to remove the marring from m105 as it is pretty aggressive compound. M105 is more aggressive on a heavy cutting and wool pads then power gloss (the US version) I think.

Another option would be to finish up the area, use something like menzerna SIP or power finish and refine the finish to see if the refining helps make the swirls almost not noticeable as trying to chance swirls and removing them can easily lead to burn through.

Do you have a PTG? If so what readings are you getting and what care are you working on?

Oh man, I really should read move careful I thought you where using a rotary and not a DA sorry about that!

DA's are great but sometimes they just dont have what it takes for really deep stuff, but I would not use wool on a DA nor would i wet sand and try to remove the sand marks as a DA just may not have it.

Honda is suppose to have some soft paint, but like I said try and refine the finish using a med and finishing polish and see how it comes out. Chasing swirls is not the best idea w/o a PTG.

Purple foamed wool sucks IMO, it will cut great at first but after that it seems to get clogged, the cut diminishes after a couple panels, and it starts linting some fibers. Yellow Ubers cut pretty hard, try a little bit more pressure since M105 is non-diminishing and pressure dependent.

I did a hammered NHBP TSX with M105 and a Green Uber: http://www.detailingbliss.com/forum/show-shine/11475-trashed-2004-acura-tsx.htm which cut almost all of the swirls in one hit, except for the deepest ones. I used the Kevin Brown Method, which is where you coat the pad with an even coat of M105 all over, instead of a couple drops and it cut really well. I was using a rotary though. I would try the Kevin brown method before picking up the rotary, and use the money to pick up a PTG first. Good luck :mounty:

Here's how I used the KBM on the detail, just coated the pad one way then the other and went to work. You do have to clean the pad more often though:

If a DA is all you have, look into Surbuf pads used with your 105.

    I'd agree with mrcolfrider-

KBM via Surbuf pad - Surbuf Pad paired with M105 and PC is a defect killer! - Page 5 - Autopia.org
    7" Surbuf pad.
    6" BP
    PC or XPPC
    Straight IPA

    1. Do not prime the Surbuf pad.
    2. Apply 4 "larger then pea sized" dots of M105 to the pad.
    3. Work the polish into a 12x12" area without turning on your PC.
    4. Spritz the surface with water.
    5. As in step 3, again work the polish around without turning on your PC, you are looking for a milky consistency.
    6. Turn on PC and work the polish till it appears to dry.
    7. Spritz more water onto the surface and continue to polish. What this does is bring the polish out of the pad and back to the surface.
    8. I have found that you will need IPA sprayed onto your MF to remove the M105 from the surface.
    9. Inspect and repeat if needed.

with KBM I find I get a shit load of splatter...I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have the pad primed, and don't spread the polish around. I go straight from pad-priming to applying a bead of polish and then polishing. Don't know whats wrong.

I have used the GI wool pad on my DA with good results on a few occasions. Also, I had a chance to use the Griots DA a few months back and was able to remove 2000# sanding marks from the hood of my Passat with it. Very impressive.

That is pretty impressive, but still may not be the best tool to take out sanding. I have tried wool on a DA (PFW and 3m Velcro backed) and fibers seem to just collapse and move around, hard to enplane, but did not work well.

pretty interesting thread. I came across somewhat of the same issue except i havnt used the m105 and was just using SIP on a yellow Uber pad. It just wasnt getting the job done.

So i guess next step up for me is M105

911Fanatic you using small wool? on PC DA or Flex DA?

What kind of paint is this you work on? Perhaps you maybe work in smaller section to see result before buying 105?

After talking with Kevin a few weeks back I have been playing with my Surbufs and 105. If you get the pressure right on the Surbufs, they work fantastic with 105. I tried the Surbuf with my rotary and wasn't impressed but with a little practice on the DA, killer combo.
