Here's a link to some reviews (they look favorable) for the lens: FM Reviews - EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS The 20D is a pretty good camera although it is a little bit older at this point. However at the price point it could be a good deal. KEH's rating on it is BGN (Bargain) meaning: The 20D coupled with that lens should be fine.
thanks, yeh im aware the camera is bargain but i figure im only going to spend more money on a better one in a year so this should do it for now. which lens is the one in ur link, the 1st or second one in mine?
That's a 20d, not a d20 But it's an excellent camera. The XXd line is fantastic as a whole. Yes, it is a bit older, but that really doesn't mean much. It may be lacking in a few of the newer, more convenient features, but no must-haves. Excellent durability (for a beginner lens). You'll find it is larger (fits in your hands better) and much more rugged than the Digital Rebel series. Those are just too small and plasticy for me. And the first lens is fine. It's just a standard kit lens. Nothing special about it, but it works well as a beginner walk-around lens. If it means anything, I've spent ~$2000 on a lens in the 70-200mm range, but when it comes to the 18-55mm range, I have that exact lens. Haven't found the need to spend any more for an everyday walk-around lens. The first and second link seem to be the exact same lens, but the first link as just a newer version (... "II"...). I forget what they changed on it. And something that made me :shead: was that the second link says it has USM (ultra-sonic motor), which is an advanced focusing mechanism only used in certain lenses, and certainly not in any of the kit lenses I've seen Canon make (except maybe the one that comes with the XSi...). So there's got to be a screw-up there. I'd just go with the first link.
Sorry, I just noticed the difference between the two you posted right now. It is similar to the first one you posted the EF-S not the EF-S II
thanks guys so i ended up getting this combo Canon Digital 20D 8.2 MEGAPIXEL WITH BATTERY & CHARGER (CF CARD ) DIGITAL SLR INTERCHANGEABLE LENS CAMERA - KEH.com and Canon Digital 18-55 F3.5-5.6 EF-S II (58) (DIG REBEL/XT, 20D, 30D, 300D) CAPS, DIGITAL SLR ZOOM SUPER WIDE ANGLE LENS - KEH.com hopefully the camera isnt in bad condition, i know im taking a risk with it being bargain status :/
Never owned canon before . . . . . was always a Nikon fan. I am in no way trying to tell you what to do but here is my suggestion. I would purchase a decent camera now if you can afford to do so and then in the future you can just upgrade your lenses and be set rather then buy a low DSLR and have to upgrade the entire thing later. If you are a Canon Fan i would suggest: $500 Canon Rebel XS It's a better camera as it is a 10.1 Megapixel camera for $500 (body & lens) vs the $400 8.2 Megapixel you posted up (that's lens & body) If you are considering Nikon i would suggest a Nikon D3000 which can be purchased for about $500 as well maybe a little less and that's body and lens and is a great camera at 10.1 Megapixels as well I just found the Nikon D3000 from a reputable site that my buddy shops at for $459 + free shipping. That is probably your best deal. Just figure i try to help. PM me or post up if you have any questions.
oh man you posted before i did as i stepped away for a few minutes . . . . . . if you decide to im sure you can always return it. For not much more you could get a brand new non bargain camera.
damn you guys were a little late to the party lol i already ordered the camera and lens, thanks for the help guys
yeh for now as long as i can take decent pics ill be fine. once i have enough money to splurge on a really nice camera and lenses i will.
