Hey guys, with my Flex 3403 on it's way I thought I'd do some research on how to properly use the beast. I'm coming from the V1 PC, and will be using M105/M205 combo...eventually. I'll use a more mild compound like IP to practice til I get my method down. So far all I've found on how to properly use it: don't go to speed 6 (for now ), be careful when it gets too hot, and to be more aware of the paint heating up. Is there any other tips you guys would give me? Any methods you found that you really like, things to watch out for, etc. I plan on polishing on 4, finishing on 5. Sound about right?
Pretty much what I did, going from v1 PC to flex rotary. I tend to spread the polish on speed 1, work in the polish at speed 1.5 to 1.75 and finish at speed 1. I use speed 2 sometimes but not that often, and never really gone above it. Like to work/breakdown the polish around the 1500 rpm range and find it works great for me. Keep things moving, get some Gloss-It EVP Pad prime that stuff is wicked great and you'll love it! Also just practice, I practiced a few times and then went to try it out on the GTI and loved it. Had zero issues and nothing to be afraid of! Also, polishing at speed 4 and 5 on the rotary is wicked fast!
I always spread on speed 1, then polish on speed 2 and finish back on speed 1 again. Relax and learn the natural rhythm of the machine. Don't fight it or tense up. Practice getting the hang of the machine by using finishing pads and polishes since those have more lubricating oils in them making them easier to glide over the paint. Make sure you completely break down the polishes or else you'll leave holograms on the finish and work slowly but never hold the machine stationary.
The flex in that video is a DA not a rotary, thats why it's on speed 6, speed 6 on the Flex rotary would be 3700rpm.
Whoaaa I think you are confusing the 3403 with that rotary/DA combo Flex. I use my 3403 like this, spread on 1, work quickly on 2, polish on 3, work back down to 2, finish on 1. Its completely polish dependent really. Something like Super finish I would work like stated above, while with some like Ultrafina or 85RD I never go past 2 or 2.5.
