What is the best way to check for holograms without the sun? Right now I only have a Brinkman, and some halogen light setup, is there anything I can do with this combination to check for holograms or is the sun the best way?
Inside, or out of the sun, an LED flashlight like the Fenix is my fav. The brinkmann will work as should the halogens. Holding the light on a slight angle (30-45 degrees) slowly move the light from top to bottom on the panel in question and look toward the outside edge of the light. You won't see the holograms in the centre of the light.
Stand 10 feet back and walk back and foruth with a Fenix LED. Hold lights at angles and far away to spot smaller defects and holograms. Anyone that holds a light source 5inches from the paint isnt showing you anything
Can some please educate me on LED flashlights like the Fenix? and what I should be looking for/avoiding when buying 1?
When inspect horizontal panel with fenix 11, try holding it up high by raising your hand and inspect the outer layer of light source. It will also be easier to inspect with low background lighting. You might want to read a little about 18650 batt and charger if you are interested in fenix TK11.
If you can't drop the $$ on a Fenix look at the tacticla lights Sam's and Costco have. 160 Lumens should be plenty bright enough for you. At 19.99 for two at Costco you can double fist them and find every last little defect! If you look through my threads you will find where I did a writeup on the Costco version.
I use a 200 lumen Surefire tactical light that I bought from a local gun shop. I swear it picks up more defects than the sun does. Since I have started using it I have kind of given up on the sun for anything other than pretty after shots. The model I picked up is the LX2 Lumamax, it is made in the US and has a lifetime warranty.
Although artificial light sources can pick up some decent defects, you can't beat inspecting your work in the sun! Being in Florida, there's an endless supply of this stuff.
