Asked him if he wanted to go out and listen to daddy's speaker. I was back by the trunk listening, and was going to start messing with the amp settings. I came around the corner to see this. Grabbed the video camera just in time lol.

Sub is not turned up excessively.

p.s. I know, the car is filthy. Drove 15 miles on dirt roads on Saturday, and haven't properly washed it yet.

YouTube - kid likes the sub

Yeah, the rear bumper needs to be resprayed anyways. I thought about it too, but it wasn't worth yelling at him to move. He was having a great time lol.

Mids and Highs sound good, what are they?

No offense, but I can't stand when people play their music with their trunks open. I am sure though you were doing it strictly bc of the video.

Actually, I was doing it because I was trying to fine tune the settings on the amp. Gotta pop the trunk to lower the rear seats (amp is mounted on the back). And of course gotta show the kid the speaker.

But no, I never sit around with the trunk open blaring music.

that's a funny video. BTW even through a video camera that stereo system sounds to be pretty clean. I'm not a fan of people who roll around and all you can hear is boom boom boom. Bass is good but so is being able to hear the rest of the music =)

three 6 mafia, actually. Song is called Late Night Tip. I'm not a huge rap fan, but when perusing youtube trying to find some subwoofer excursion videos, a LOT of the videos had this song playing. So I downloaded it, and tried it out. It does have mucho bass.

Exactly my thoughts too. I need the midrange/tweeters to be able to keep up with the sub. I'm way more into SQ than SPL.

Although, my next sub is probably going to be a DC Level 4, dual 2 ohm, 12". Sealed enclosure. Subs I'm considering are RE SXX, Memphis Mojo, DC Audio lvl 4, maybe IDMAX 12", dunno. I want to keep it under $300 for the sub. The sub needs to be wired to 1 ohm, and be able to handle 1200 watts rms.

nice. sounds like you know your way around car audio pretty well. I have a couple of amps that i intended to use but i think i'm going to try and unload them instead. Just makes no sense for them to be sitting if i'm not going to use them.

SQ is important. To many youngn's now days just want the trunk rattling. I am a big music head from techno to hip hop to alternative and rock . . . . . i was brought up listening to jazz and was always taught about bass and treble and all that good stuff so i was brought up with clarity.

Don't get it twisted though as i love bass i just couldn't live without being able to hear and understand the song vs boom boom pow LoL.

I've never had a sub wired that low before. What are the benefits? I had a Alpine Type R Dual 2 Ohm sub and i forgot to hookup the second voice coil and was wondering why the sub sounded weak. When i went back and double checked everything and hooked it back up good lord!

as for RE subs those subs are nice . . . . . they make some pretty powerful subs but they are not cheap.

Techronics has the RE SXX dual 2 ohm for $248. The reason for the low ohm load is more power. If you take a look at amps, the lower the ohm load, the more watts they put out.

For example, my Directed d2400 is rated at:

    400 watts x 1 chan. @ 4 ohms
    800 watts x 1 chan. @ 2 ohms
    1200 watts x 1 chan. @ 1 ohm

If I want to run one sub, and fully utilize my amp, I need it to be wired to a 1 ohm load, and be capable of 1200 watts continuous.

I am by no means a car audio expert. I'm just in the process of researching my options, so all of this info is new to me as well.

I do know that I will probably need to upgrade my alternator and the alternator wiring to meet my power needs. High output alternator runs about 300. Then the 4 guage wiring is about a buck a foot. But my battery is in the trunk, so I'll have some routing work to do too.
