Apple is brilliant when it comes to marketing...this is all just marketing.

For such a secretive company, it always seems like there are leaked photos and what not of upcoming Apple products. Doubt this was an accident.

I feel bad for the guy that lost it, because he definitely lost his job too.

This would be a really stupid marketing move if it wasn't an accident. Having millions of iPhones not sold for the next 3-4 months because they 'leaked' the next one. Its not like the iPhone we see wouldn't get crazy hype when released properly anyways. Nonetheless, it was an accident, or at least all evidence business wise and financially shows.

Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear on my original post.

OBVIOUSLY, this was no accident and simply another marketing trick from the brilliant marketers at Apple.

What are the chances that somebody "loses" an iPhone 4G at a bar and a guy who works for Gizmodo just happens to pick it up? Come on, it's a setup and it worked...

I happen to think that this smells of Apples marketing dept as well. It is hard for me to buy that it isn't in light that this all went down the same day the pre-ordering opened up for the next big Droid phone (The Incredible). They want to stop the bleeding of old iPhone owners that are jumping ship to the new Droid Incredible. It is a smart move. A lot of iPhone owners out there that are feeling left out with all these new Android devices coming out with bigger screens, more resolution, better cameras, faster hardware, etc. This might help a few iPhone owners wait on the fence for a while longer before switching to one of the Android phones.

If this was all intentional by Apple for marketing and NOT an accident, why has Apple been ridiculously secretive towards every other item they produce and not let a leak "slide" now and then?

LOL. Yes Apple has brilliant marketing, but this isn't part of it.

Whatever it was, it's certainly working as everyone now knows about it or at least is talking about it.

I don't buy expensive phones, so I could care less. Hell, I don't even own a computer. I just use the one at work.

I still don't buy any of it. Why would Apple get a Search Warrant and have the police take all of the poor guy's computer equipment when they just wanted the iPhone back...

man I laughed hard when I read this. Serves them right after releasing the employee's(Who lost the phone) name to the wild for no good reason.

Though they "claim" they did that so that Apple won't fire him since his name is in the spotlight right now.. not sure why that would stop Apple.. bad PR or not.
