    Hey all,

I'm hoping that some one here could help me out. I'm doing an exchange for work with my friend and he had me detail the inside of his boat. I'm having a hard time giving him a quote for the detail because I have only done cars so I'm looking for some insight so I can give him a fair quote. Keep in mind I just detailed the inside. Here is some info on the detail:

Boat: Not sure the brand but it is a newer ski boat (The ones made for wake boarding with a million speakers every where :)) it was in pretty good shape but it's kept out side with a cover so the vinyle seat cushions had some mold.

    Process used:

    - Pulled carpets (Just two pieces ~3’ long) vacuumed and cleaned with blue coral carpet cleaner
    - Pulled out all cushions and scrubbed with Meg’s APC diluted 1:2 and rinsed off
    - Scrubbed the whole inside down with wash brush and Meg’s APC
    - Rinsed
    - Washed with Meg’s Gold Class soap and wool mitt
    - Rinsed
    - Dried
    - Installed seats and carpets back
    - Cleaned all windows with Stoner’s Glass cleaner
    - Sprayed all seats with 303 Vinyl protection
    - The 303 bottle said good for UV protection on Fiberglass so I also used it inside of the boat as well. I did not want to add my Meg’s Boat wax because I was afraid it would get too slippery when wet :cig:
    - Total time spent was about 8 hours and the inside looked like new again :thumb:

I was thinking something like this would at least retail for $700, if not more. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

  2. Charge by the hour and you won't have to guess :duh:

700 sounds good to me. If you pass on this gig, send them my way :giggle:

Thanks Philbert! I was not sure if the charge per hour for a boat would be the same as a car. Like I said, I have never done a boat before

No not at all. That's some good money for 8hrs worth of work . . . . . . that's nearly $100 hr. A little less of course but you get the point.

Well unfortunately for me i live in Hawaii, we don't have lakes there for we don't have boats like that to detail so that's out of the question.

I just didn't know that kind of money could be made detailing a boat of that size on just the interior.

Thats really expensive for a boat interior, especially a ski boat where its all vinyl and gelcoat. I do a few boats like that every year and would charge around $400 for that interior and I actually seal all the gelcoat inside as well. Thats $50/hr which is fair for what you are doing. Best thing you can do is get online and look at what kind of money guys are charging for boat interiors. :)

  8. $700 was for interior only :yikes:

I could have the interior and exterior done in 8 -10 hours. $550 is all I would probally charge for everything :drinking2:

You better get this chumps money while the gettings good :tiptoe:

    The hull truth

My son charges $30 per linear foot. This includes a complete compound and wax with all the deck fittings off, paint touch-up on the outboard or I/O, and a super clean ( including the engine and the interior). This usually take about a full day on an 18 to 20 - foot boat.

If it's any help I charged 550 for a flooded Mazda RX-8, basically the same process. I pulled carpets, padding, door panels, anything that could be removed with exception of the dash and cleaned demolded and replaced carpet padding. NTM I polished and corrected all the paint outside so I wouldn't be suprised if you could hit over $800 for that.

Thanks for the input :thumb: I was looking to see what other people are charging so I can give my friend a fair price. I certainly do not want to take advantage of my friend and over charge.

i have seen folks charge by the foot but what would one use to help calculate that sort of figure? I've done a couple boats before and feel that i underbid myself and will probably never do a boat here again LoL. The boat detailing market here isn't big at all . . . . . people just like to fish and let the boats rot.

My basic charge is $15/ft for a wash, 2 coats of sealant inside and out, clean interior and dress all vinyl. Charges go to $25/ft to include a single stage polish and $35/ft for two stage. I can do my basic package on a 24-26 boat in a day no problem.
