I defently understand what your going though. It's really up and down for me, but like Richy said, overbooking yourself is just a recipe for disater. In December I did that and I swore I would never do it again, regardless of the amount of money being made. You need to find a balance between work and things that you enjoy and make you relax. I truly like detailing cars, but at the end of a work day it's the last thing I want to think about.
i feel what you're saying richy. like i said to misha, im looking into buying my first house in the fall, so i guess im pushing myself extra hard with fulltime work and side work right now in an attempt to make as much money as possible. i still do enjoy my side work much more than my fulltime detail work, but sometimes it just all ends up feeling like the same old routine over and over. i'm considering pursuing a career in law enforcement as well. am i totally insane? lol Insane??? Maybe for some people. You constantly get to see people at their worse. This career is not for everyone, that's for sure. The cool thing is there are a huge variety of actual assignments if you get in a large force...marine, motorcycle, ident, drugs, undercover and so on. Not many employers can offer so much variety.
Detailing will not be a massive variety by any means. However I find each car and client offer a new challenge. I get to attend car shows and events which I personally find entertaining. While its not a huge variety its not the same old routine. Now a chef is someone with a routine that never ends, trust me on that.
I also feel your pain, I work full time in a body shop and the harder part is when I'm not busy at work and I know I have a car to detail after work. It gets hard trying to get my 2nd wind sometimes. I detail for the dealership that the body shop is part of and all they give me is black cars and trucks and they are always in horrible shape. The phrase you can't polish a terd and shit don't shine always comes to mind. I also have a bunch of my own side jobs to detail, like this land scaping company wants me to do all 25 of his trucks! I did recently break up with my girl friend which was tressing me out so now I have a little more extra time and when I feel myself really getting down or stressed it's time for a vacation. Even if you just turn your phone off and lounge around the house or go for a hike or some thing. Godod luck with the house purchase, and take some time for yourself.
After I spend some time with my new PC, I already don't like it. Lots of time and energy with the polishing stage. I ended up getting a vx5000 steamer and mainly do interior work.
At least someone cares. Thanks, maybe I can get thru another week now :drinking2: And the shoe cobblers son goes barefoot. If I had a dollar everytime I've used this line I'd be rich biothces :afro: Good Luck on getting yourself a Home this year. Don't go overboard and get something you really can't afford though. Your still very young, there will be time to get that dream home later :cig: You need to start getting the owners names of these vehicles you work on at work. Look in the glovebox for an insurance card/registration. I know this is a little shady, but it works :tiptoe: Any Goverment job would be ideal for someone your age. You could retire at 49 w/benefits/pension. You could still detail on your off days and probally even get back to enjoying it again. Get out while you still can :help:
