Got the chance to work on a car I've been a big fan of. Owners super chill and definitely has the quickest STI I've been in, let alone car. Little bit of background info, the STI just got back from a track weekend at Pacific Raceways in WA. So the paint had rubber all over and wheels were covered in a thick layer of brake dust. Seeing as how much there was I wanted to try something strong, but didn't want to use anything acidic. So I picked up some Autoglym Custom Wheel Cleaner since it was on sale for $9.69. I must say, great product, it pulled off so much grime from the tires right away and pulled the brake dust off no problem. Zep Citrus definitely would have a problem with these wheels, may end up picking up a large quantity from Ken over at Autowerkes Exclusive soon. BTW, sorry for the large amount of pictures, a lot of people asked me to take a crap load of pics lol...Heres the product list: Wash: - 2 Bucket Method w/ Grit Guards - Raceglaze Sheepskin Washmitt - Raceglaze Brush (Cracks/Crevices) - Meguiars Gold Class - Dawn Dishwashing Detergent - Zep Citrus - Majestic Solutions Ultra Gloss - Optimum No Rinse Wheels/Tires: - Autoglym Custom Wheel Cleaner - Raceglaze XL Wheel Brush - Laitner Wheel Brush - Swissvax Wheel Brush - Meguiars Tire Brush - Old Sponge cut in half - Gloss-It Signature Tire Gloss - Blackfire Metal Sealant Clay: - Riccardo Blue Clay - ONR Clay Dilution Last Step Protection: - Autoglym HD Wax (2 Coats) - Autoglym Applicator Pad - Chemical Guys Sasquatch MF - Wool Duster Windows: - Collinite 845 Base Coat - Autoglym HD Wax Top Coat Rubber from the track day Befores of the wheels More rubber deposits My wheel cleaning arsenal Here is the Autoglym Custom Wheel Cleaner at work, pulled so much grim out of the tire without any agitation. Also took care of the bake dust very well. After Claying Note, wheels don't have Blackfire Metal Sealant applied yet...hence why they look a little dull Cool shot of my CG Sasquatch and Autoglym HD Wax Wax curing on windows Afters Some bonus interior shots, no interior detailing was done though Beading Thanks for looking, Brendan
Great job!! I'm a big GM fan, but if I would stray away I would get a STI. For some reason when I see one I just gotta stare.
My favourite car of all time <3. Looking great...where's the engine shots though! Also, how'd you tackle all that rubber...did you just clay it all off?
Thanks bro, CWC is an amazing wheel cleaner. It amazed the heck out of me. haha good choice, it's been my attainable dream car for a while now. Engine bay and exhaust were not detailed as requested by the owner I love the HD, really looked nice on Subaru's Satin White Pearl paint. It goes on super thin and comes off really easily. I was able to do the entire car and then just buff off after with no problems. HD Wax is definitely well worth $35. I didn't dilute it 1:1 like Ken says you can, so I ended up using a bottle:hmph:
that's what I thought too...the whole bottle, go buy some more..haha so you are saying that even Zep citrus at 1:3 or 1:1 is not as strong as Autoglym wheel cleaner? better get some at cantire then.
Zep is great for wheels that don't have caked on brake dust. That and regular maintenance, but CWC I would use when you run into say Volks, Advans, HRE's, DPE's etc. Just to be on the safe side.
