I sold my Evo IX back in December in hopes of picking up a used Z06. I ended up finding a low-mile clean (we will get to that later) black on black 2007 Z06. The car was not "clean" (as in freshly washed) when I saw it to take it for a test drive. I did see that there were virtually no rock chips, dings, scrapes, etc. There was normal marring pretty much over the whole car, but it was not too bad. Around the drivers side around the hatch area, there were several vertical scratches at perfect belt-buckle height. There was, however, water spots over the entire hood, and a nice etching from bird dropping in one spot. I told the seller not to wash the car before I picked it up. So this is the first wash/polish/wax for me. I ended up spending around 8 hours on this detail (I did the interior a few days prior, so no before/after pics). The whole process ended up going a lot faster than I anticipated, and I took my time. My plan for the detail was to address most of the marring, address some deeper scratches, remove all the water spots, apply some sealant, and then a wax. I wasn't going for 100% correction. With the hard Corvette paint, I will need some more products for a 95% - 100% correction, but I am happy with the results from the Porter Cable. I still have more to do, like remove wheels and clean calipers and inside of the wheels. There are also some areas I want to use a more aggressive pad/polish combo for deeper scratches. Process: Wash w/Meguairs Gold Class Clay bar with ONR as clay lube Porter Cable Meguiar's burgandy and yellow pads PO85RD 3.02 PO106 FF Poorboys EX-P Chemical Guys 50/50 Wheels polished w/PO85RD, then 106FF FK1 1000P on wheels Mother mag wheel polish on exhaust 303 Aerospace on interior and black trim Before wash: Scratches on left rear quarter panel from belt buckle: 50/50 shot of same area, after 1 pass of PO85: Water spots on hood/LF fender, bird dropping etching: 50/50 shot of same area, after 1 pass PO85: Another: Entire area as above, after 1 pass PO85: Drivers side door handle area before: Same area, after: All polishing finished (beer time) All finished polishing: Tape removed: RF emblem, this is why we tape emblems (before shot, previous owner had wax residue everywhere) During: After: LF emblem before: RF emblem after: More wax residue (previous owner): During: After: Area where belt buckle scratches were: All polished, sealed, waxed: Time for a drive and some more pics. Picked up POLLEN everywhere on the car after a 2 mile drive:
You did a great job on the 'Vette. I saw what products you used and thought there's no way he's getting out anything with what's he using...but I was wrong. You did a great job on it and the wheels came out beautifully as well..way to go.
i agree with richy, most impressive...definitely reinforces the always start with the least aggressive and work your way up.
such a good looking car, an absolute bargain compared to Aus car prices since our Aussie built Monaro's go stateside to Pontiac, GM need to reciprocate with a trade back
Yea, I wasn't expecting too much with the combo I used. The 106 did not do enough correction, so I stepped it up to the PO85RD 3.02. It did a lot more, and took care of the water spots, small scratches, etching, and marring. There are still some micro-scratches present, but not worried about that right now. Time to enjoy driving the car! I am going to get a hold of PO203, and a different pad and see what happens. It will be after summer until I do another polish on the car. Until then, it will see wax and maybe I will try out some Poorboys Black Hole.
DOH! I missed the 3.02...That's Super Intensive Polish...I thought you did all that with the finishing polish PO85rd! Nice correction!
