And make my own wax...just ordered a pound of Pure Yellow Brazilian Carnauba. Does anyone have any recommendations? Also does anyone know how to turn it from Yellow to Ivory? Thanks guys...also just doing this for fun :afro:
There is no bennifit to using bleached carnauba vs. yellow; yellow is the purest wax you can get and white is bleached. So just stick with yellow and you will do great, what solvent you going to be using?
Wow, really? Never knew that lol...I told you, you are the Nuba king....no idea still looking into this...believe it or not the wax was cheap! $8 per pound...
You might wanna do a search maybe on Autopia. There's some threads on it there. I've mixed a few together before but never got the raw ingridents to do it.
There is a thread on DW of how RBOE started and some of the sisters and brothers of RBOE. Turp is a slow evap surfavnt, mineral spirits can be used as well I think. Nuba is cheap as a raw material.
yeah i talked to Ben about that . . . . . not a easy thing. A lot goes into making a wax and before you know it you will be shoulder deep in crap that needs to get done in order to have a good working wax. It's not as easy as buying the yellow wax mixing some things in like you would a pancake batter and winding up with wax hehehehe. If it was i would have made some too. Good luck though.
Put it this way, it is not easy as making pancakes but not as hard as making a sealant. If you know some basics, and have your wits about you then you could make something decent if you know a little bg info and know what different chems do and why they are used. Melting, when to mix in things, speed of cooling all need to be calculated for and taken into consideration.
I wouldn't say it is bleached cause it is it's natural color. an to be honest the whiter color nuba which is a lighter clearer yellow is the highest grade nuba you can get. as for a real pure white nuba does not really exist.
There is some people who who call very very light yellow natural nuba white nuba then some call bleached yellow nuba white nuba. There is a differance, bleached yellow nuba is modified to look white in color, where as the very pale yellow (sometimes called white) is naturally occurring. I have some nuba flakes and a block of nuba and they are rock hard, you can scrub it on a hard surface and hardly even puts a dent in it. Lot of people use it in wood working.
yes true but when you man made try to bleach it you change the structure composition an than there is no purpose for the nuba anymore.
