-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I searched and could not find anything conclusive on this... Has anyone polished a 2009 Infiniti yet? I have Menzerna Power Finish and a PC 7424. I just finished the wife's SUV with great results. There are rumours that you cannot polish the scratch shield clear coats on my 2009 G37S but I can't find anything conclusive. If you can't polish, what about an AIO cleaner (like Werkstat Prime) applied via PC? Is this bad too? What about decontamination kits from FK1 and clay bars? If anyone has polished a 2009 G37 (or any 2009 Infiniti) without destroying it, please chime in .
Carlos dealt with one here. I dealt with one here: http://www.detailingbliss.com/forum/f47/08-g37-6306.html
I don't know if either of those had the scratch shield. Infiniti started using the scratch shield on the EX model in 2008 (I believe) but NOT on the G models until 2009. I had a 2008 G37 and it had the regular, non scratch shield, clear coat. The 2009s are the first model year with the new clear coat. I have heard from various sources that they CANNOT be polished as it can destroy the clear coat as the healing properties work with heat and the heat from polishing will ruin them. I am just really confused on this as it is hard to find anything conclusive that you can or cannot polish the new clear coat.
Well as richy posted the one that I detailed has the scratch shield and the owner told me about the clear coat healing it's self with just heat, meaning that if you leave the vehicle out in the sun, the heat would remove scratches/imperfections on the clear coat. When the owner told me about this, I had to see it for my self. So what I did was I put my 1000W lights on a panel that had a good scratch on it, well I left the lights on the area for several minutes, the surface was getting quite hot. Prior to setting the lights on the scratched surface the scratch could be felt with your nails, once the entire section was hot enough the owner and I tried to see if we could feel the scratch and you could barely feel it...however, this did not remove the scratch, it seemed to fill the scratch. So if by saying the clear coat will heal it's self perhaps it's true in the sense that the clear coat will expand to fill a scratch but not remove it...but that's just my opinion and I'm no expert on Infinities clear coat. The one thing I'll say is that the clear coat is hard as nails, even harder the the famous Corvettes clear coat, if your going to try to correct your vehicle with a PC you've got your work cut out for you. Again this is just my opinion, hope it helps.
i read about it in magazine. neat concept but will it work in long run. what about swirls? will clear coat corect those by itself?
well it does correct minor stuff for sure, but swirls still show up, btw I'm the owner of the G that Carlos worked on, the vehicle sits under the sun plenty at work, and there are a few spots that look cleaner than others before it was detailed, but I wouldn't hold my breath on this new paint.:cig:
is this true for the GTR as well with its claimed 'self healing paint'? has anyone here corrected one yet? ive yet to see a proper detail thread on one - can someone send me the link to that thread on detailingworld where the detailer got chastised for wet sanding the whole car (ive only ever heard about it) and here i am looking at going solid black again for my daily driver edit! nevermind i found it http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=131776 ive seen/driven a black GTR and didnt noticed the paint having that much peel
Rick over on Autopia dealt with one recently. Seems he had a pretty tough go of it too. http://www.autopia.org/forum/pro-de...ld-paint-complete-detail-unique-car-care.html
