Well, I think I have been pretty naughty this week. I finally ordered my Makita rotary buffer after staving off temptation for a while. Here is the grand list of the stuff I ordered this week: -Makita 9227 rotary polisher -Gloss-it backing plates (3" and 5") -Uber 3" backing plate -1 gallon of ONR and Optimum Power Clean -Zymol Concours wax -Chemical Guys E-zyme wax -Collinite 845 liquid wax x 2 (buy one get one free) -DP Waterless autowash x 2 (buy one get one free) -Lake Country CCS 4" pads x 4 -Raceglaze RG55 wax -Victoria Wax Mayhem wax -Chemical Guys Bare Bones -Chemical Guys Stripper car scent -12 gallon 5hp Shop Vac -Crevice attachments Well, that is about all I can remember right now. Don't even ask about how much that all cost because I don't want to have to check lol. I just hope to god my detailing business kicks off here haha. I will admit that my product selection and tools were not ideal in previous details and really added a lot of time because I was not adequately equipped to deal with heavily soiled cars inside and out. This should solve that issue which is great because it will increase my productivity and allow for more efficiency in my details. Anyway, I am excited so I thought I would post this.
dang! That is alot of great stuff there and alot of great LSPs! Between RG55, E-Zyme, and Concourso...some high pirced LSPs there haha... You will love your Gloss-It backing plate, Power Clean, 845, and really everything haha.
I haven't really made any big detailing purchases for a while, the last big one like this was when I first bought my PC, pads, and XMT polishes 3 years ago so I felt like this is a good time to step up a level. It was definately very expensive lol, I can hear my wallet crying from my drawer haha. I will start perfecting my rotary technique, and then make a decision on whether I want to stick with CCS pads or move on. I figure that I have plenty of experience with polishing on a PC so that I have a good enough understanding in that regard to apply it to a rotary without too much trouble. I was wondering, what do you guys do when you have edges or curvy panels? Do you speed up you movements? Lighten pressure? Lower rpms?
Depends on a lot of things... I will say sometimes the 3" and 75mm bp are great to have, I have even busted out the 50mm bp and gone to town
wow nice list. that is one heck of a hefty shopping cart for sure. Out of curiosity though . . . . any particular reason why you grabbed (2) 3" BP's? Nevertheless sweet order.
Good catch, that is my mistake! I didn't get a 3" Gloss-it backing plate. I got the 3" uber plate and a 5" Gloss-it plate so those two should make a formidible pair. The buffer itself comes with a 7" backing plate, not sure if I will ever use it though. Its hard to keep track of all that stuff, my orders were at various places so I have all these order emails and shipping confirmation that I have to sift through. Edit: I also ordered the Raceglaze XL wheel brush from Ken which should make wheel cleaning a whole lot easier in terms of the barrels.
Nice haul...hopefully you get some return on your investment there. I find these purchases are bitter-sweet. Sweet when you order and get them, bitter when the bill comes in..hahaha.
great products. cabin fever and a sore knee are great motivators. how is knee? mine is great i helped a friend do a boat used collinite and made him a believer. dave
I have been saving my money for a while but I knew I had to bite the bullet for some of these things before I started getting detailing jobs lined up. It is fun though, I will admit there is quite a few products there that I bought solely to satisfy my my wax obsession lol. Thanks! I now need to fine tune my detailing supplies and get rid of a lot of stuff that I don't get to use anymore. The bill has already come lol. It only takes a few detailing jobs to cover costs but I realized that getting better supplies will make detailing jobs a whole lot easier and efficient for me which keeps your motivation up and eventually makes you more money anyway. The optional goodies are never bitter sweet though! People are always amazed at what a little TLC can do for a car.
Congrats on your order. I think you should have held back on the expensive waxes initially as the key is really cleaning and prepping the paint. It would have kept your costs significantly down without sacrificing your potential profits. Once you create a good reputation for yourself in your area, then you can invest in the more expensive waxes and charge extra for laying down a coat or two of a high end wax.
I know, I have spent a lot of time getting the most out of polishes and refining my jeweling method and have great respect that a properly prepped surface can't be improved on by an LSP. I am mainly out to try various things really, in this case my curiousity got the better of me! I am going to be selling off a fair amount of supplies this weekend, mostly things I just don't use anymore. To me, waxes are all about the experience they offer the user. But I agree with you 100%, I am not out for outright profits. Mainly, this is just my side hobby and I have no real plans to make it anything more than a summer job which is why a bit of this is discretionary. Thanks! I can't wait to start ripping through all these boxes, it is like xmas and my b-day all in one!
