I just bought 2010 Genesis with leather interior. What products should I use to protect the interior and exterior paint ? Any suggestion for a DIY ? I want to protect it since everything is new. Thanks in advance.:help:

There are plentry of good leather products out there.

I really like Lexol Leather Cleaner, but I hate the conditioner. It smells funny and is too greasy. I personally like the Gloss It leather condition and the raceglaze balm.

As for the exterior there are many products from multiple catigores. All the vendors on this site offer great products.

Where are you located? I just picked up Surf City Garage Voodoo leather that they carry at Pep Boys. Apparently their Dash Away product is good at cleaner leather. Those two might suit you, and something like NXT 2.0 for wax. It all depends if you're looking for local stuff or not.

There are many good one as said above:

1z Leather Care : Great little all in one that leaves seats looking great and good protection, does not clean the best. You could use this after a good leather cleaner to protect the seats

Leather Masters Trio (Strong Cleaner, Vital, and Protectant) this is the high end of the spectrum, cost a little bit more but great cleaner, conditioner and protectant. You can just get Strong Cleaner, use that then use 1z Leather Care and get good results

1Z Leather Care, but my favorite is the Duragloss Leather Conditioner.

+1 on the DG leather conditioner. Congrats on the Genesis...sedan or coupe? I fell in love with the Equus at the car show...I can't wait for them to build it, I really think that'll be my next car.

I'm a 1Z Leather Care user myself, with Leather Master's Strong Cleaner when I need good cleaning power. Same kind of routine agpatel described.

Really, really nice car, whichever one you got, sedan or coupe. That sedan is astonishingly good. I've never driven it, but I've sat in one, looked at the paint and the overall build quality. Why anybody would pay twice the money for a Lexus LS is kind of beyond my grasp. I hope it's as good a car as I'm hoping it is!

Karl...I went so far as to test drive one...the V-6 unfortunately as that's all they had at the time. Even it was a damned nice car. I thought I would wait and see if they built one with an optional all wheel drive. Have you seen the Equus yet? Unbelievable....the most comfortable car...every luxury option..I absolutely love it so much I don't care it it's AWD or not!

Last time Karl and I meet we were talking about the Genesis and how great of a value it truly is. Love the 2 door version! Like I told Karl, they are going to be knocking at Toyota and Honda's door in the coming years with sales rising and better and better quality and cars that people actually want.

If you leather is uncoated, Leatherique products are awesome. if the leather is coated I agree with Duragloss products, they are excellent....

As a car enthusiast, it's exciting to watch a car company really hitting all of its marks like this.
I also looked at the Tucson, the small crossover SUV. Wow was that thing NICE. Great looking, unbelievable build quality and paint, extremely well priced, the lot. If my Mom, for example, wanted to replace her Ford Escape - itself a great car - I'd take her straight to the Tucson.

Anyway, to the original poster, we like your car! You should post pictures of it, tell us how you like it. Maybe that's another thread.

Leather Master, 1Z leather care, Raceglaze leather twins would be my choice for leather...

So the consensus is Duragloss or Leather Masters. I live in Orange Couny, Southern California. Where can I buy these stuffs beside ordering online? I will post some pictures once I clean and wax. Thanks all for sharing the info.:thumb:

I'm a huge fan of Duragloss products. They are high quality products that are very reasonably priced...you can even buy most stuff by the gallon. The cool thing is that if you order from them directly, they have a FLAT $5. shipping regardless of the order. Try out their sealants, either 105 or 111. Get yourself some 601 to put under it and you will have amazing protection and your colour will look great too.

Most auto leather is matt when it is new and looked after correctly. Leather with a shiny or glossy look is usually due to build up of dirt together with abrassion (constant sliding in and out). This is often exacerbated by the use of 'conditioners' that contain waxes and/or oils which only sit on the surface and attract more dirt.

Leather does not require 'conditioning' with anything other than water.

Keep your leather clean by protecting it with a leather protector and then regular cleaning.
Adding 'conditioners' which generally contain oils and waxes will change the appearance of your leather over time as dirt will build up on the surface and cause a sheen.

Using the correct care methods and products will not alter the factory finish.

This type of leather is 'coated' leather. This is essentially a 'painted' leather with a clear coat finish over the top. The leather may or may not be dyed through with aniline dyes prior to the finish coating.

Essentially it is this top coating that needs looking after. Cleaning is vitally important as the top coat will wear away if allowed to become dirty. Dirt on the surface will aslo become ground into the finish by constant abrassion.

'Conditioners', balms, feeds etc (traditionally oil and wax based) cannot penetrate this finish so are not worth applying - they can also leave behind residues on the finish which will only attract more dirt if allowed to remain.

A protector will make the finish easier to clean and also inhibit dye transfer etc on pale coloured leathers.

Leather however finished has to remain breathable and it will allow the movement of moisture back and forth (transpiration) so the use of water based cleaners and protectors will keep the leather correctly hydrated which is essentail to keeping it in good condition.

The routine for correct care should be
    Protect from new
    Maintain with a maintenance product
Deep clean with a foam cleaner once or twice a year

This will prolong the life of the finish on the leather

    Hope this helps

Judy..thanks for your post. I know you are an authority when it comes to leather. I have stopped beating my head against the wall trying to convince people they don't need to waste their money on leather conditioners. I believe you're located in the UK...do you have any links or suggestions for products that clean and maintain leather that are available in Canada and the US? Thanks.

bumping this in hopes of a response. the only "protectants" i have found are the Leather Masters (too expensive to use on any car but my own) and Opt Protectant Plus. What do you recommend?
