Matt Farah from the online show Smoking Tire (wanna be TopGear) claims to know he knows how to properly wash a car. I never liked any of his shows, and you would think its easy to drive nice cars and review them its not, theres a certain way to express how a car is to others that makes the viewer feel involved, Tiff, Clarkson and Chris Harris do an excellent of this is all their reviews... Matt, not so much. Well Matt claimed he knows how to properly wash a car and technically he does not... YouTube - How to Wash and Detail Your Car - Part 1/2 Forget the store bought stuff, he used the netted bug sponged on his paint (bad idea for swirls) washed the top, middle and bottom panels all haphazardly, forgetting the bottom panels are the dirties part and then brings the mitt back to the top parts of the car. Leaves his palm smack on the finish, doesn't use grit guards, dries like a maniac. I'll admit hes better than most but dont claim to really know what your talking about when you dont. :shead:
He broke quite a few rules there, but if you put it into context in terms of how most people who watch that video clean their cars, even Matt Farah is doing it better. I think the reason why he is never going to match Clarkson and Tiff because he just doesn't express the same passion and obviously will never match the epic challenges and adventures that TG and 5th Gear.
Seems pretty typical. Maybe the next episode is on how to polish out all the wash induced scratches. LOL!!
Clarkson is just the man, end of story! Cant wait for new season to start in the summer. Pssh, no OTC product Black Magic has can take out swirls. Overall, compared to many others, it was decent. Still had many wrong things but better than may I would say.
this video made me sick. Just how he selected the products at the store, really put a big smile on my face. Not to mention, when he starts to wash, why in the hell are you using a two bucket system, when you wash a panel and then stick the dirty mitt into the clean soap again. Rewatch the video if you did not catch that.
to his defense he did note that they arent profession detailing products , just things anyone can get, but still pretty bad none the less
Personally, when it comes to washing the car, the products of choice have less to do with messing things up. Proper procedures and wash mediums will do more to save your paint then product choice. If you wash the bottom of the cafe and then move to the top of the door, a $25 soap is not going to help.
There you go! I dont expect the man to be a detailer, just if your going to put up a HOW TO video, know HOW TO wash a car safely. Bring the mitt from your lower rocker to your hood is ridiculous!
The part I thought was most interesting is when they had that professional detailer start polishing the back but cut the camera away and never displayed the results of the polishing compared to the OTC products.
He's really not all that bad considering the average American dries their car with a bath towel, LoL. IIRC, I don't remember him saying he was a professional in any way but leading a show where you show potential viewers the "correct way" to wash a car is certainly misleading.
I will admit that I used bath towels many years ago until I started getting into taking care of cars... In fact, I think there are many people who find worse ways to clean their cars than using a bath towel.
Did you see that youtube video of the Saab owner who did half the car with windex and paper towels?! I had to leave a message.
