Man nice shots. I'm digging that first shot that you took over the water there. Looks like a slower shutter speed to enhance the lights . . . . . was there any post editing done?

Reason i ask is the picture looks a little HDR-ish or like the histogram was toyed with to get some nice effects.

Anywyays, what camera, lenses and software are you using along with some of your settings to get those effects.

 

I really like the tilt shift on the Studebaker! I have been trying to improve my action shots since it is a whole other experience trying to get the best pictures you can on the fly.

 

Great pics bud! Please include settings etc as a few of here are learning photography.

Thanks everyone.

The travel photo is of my visit to Strasbourg, France during the '09 Tour de France. It was shot handheld with my 5D @ 1" i think it was ISO 1600 i'm pretty sure F4 aperture.

The other stuff...well for most of you guys I wouldn't worry so much of the gear to buy or use but rather the techniques that will give you better reason to spend the money on higher end gear. I've seen plenty of awesome stuff done with Rebel and other entry level DSLR's with mediocre lenses. It's all down to the user input!

But since i'll be bombarded until I answer oke: here are some of my pieces of kit:

Canon 30D (one of those shots i'm sure was with my old 30D)

By the way I'll get some detailing shots up soon. I'm in the process of doing work on my 987S that was damaged during transport from overseas.

 

Which 70-200 do you have? f2.8 L IS USM I'm assuming. I'm probably going to get the f4, as I can't spend that much on glass.

I just got the 50 1.8 (thanks, heath!). Do you see a big difference with the 1.4? I can't see why one would need that shallow of a DOF.

But I am a complete newb to DSLR photography, and photography in general. Trying to read up on it.

Nice gear and pictures! I too agree that great results can be achieved with entry-level DSLR's and great user input! What do you think of glass versus bodies? IMO, I believe glass is more important than bodies.

 

Thats my belief from my experience with DSLRs, I got a D3000 even though I wanted to get a D5000 because I know that I will never be able to extract the full potential from even those "entry level" cameras. Plus, it lets you spend more on nicer lenses.

Garbage in = garbage out.

 

nice shots . . . . . wish we had some stuff like that here so i could try and take some nice shots.

Nikon user right here . . . . Entry Level D60 DSLR with the stock lens for now until later on down the road when i can drop $1,000 on some lenses.

Pretty neat to see that you were able to hand hold the camera with a 1" shutter speed and managed to get no blur and there is no noise in the picture that i can see with that high of a ISO @ 1600.

+1 on the lack of noise at 1600 and that long of an exposure. You must have hands like a surgeon.

 

Usually at a iso1600 you would have a lot of noise. I'm surprised though i mean everyone has their own technique of doing things . . . . . i would figure you could compensate that high iso and use a lower iso with a longer shutter speed.

I have a pretty steady hand but not sure i could capture a image of that quality holding the camera still with that slow of a shutter speed.

Makes me want to go out and try. I know for a fact that i can't do a 5"-6" sec shutter speed but maybe a 1" sec.
