So my car has tons of chips and marks on the front from all the sand and gravel here in CO, I just got three estimates for a repaint ranging from 2k-4k And thats for the hood, fenders, and front bumper....just because im 25 with a corvette does not mean i can afford that! So i was talking with my dad about his experience with the dr colorchip system and he swears by it, however on my car ill be at it for a month straight . I called my ins agent buddy to find out if he knows of someone who does mobile bumper repair (basically rock chips and road rash) he reffered me to this guy Who i left a message with, but based on what im finding on other forums, these guys just do the same thing as the dr colorchip albeit they have a faster way of doing it, however most of the info on the web says that on "chips" smaller than a pin point it makes the chip disappear, which is good news since thats about the size of 90% of my chips...the largest one is the size of a period on this forum. So im wondering if maybe getting a clear bra over that will act as a way to eliminate or lessen the look of the remaining 10%. anybody have any experience with this?
You'd be surprised how fast you can cover large areas of rash with Dr. Colorchip. They recommend a t-shirt application for large, peppered surfaces that worked well for me. There is a bit of a learning curve and the results improved every time I used it. Personally, I wouldn't attempt to hide the imperfections with a clear bra, I'd think fixing them first and then adding a clear bra to prevent future occurances would be the way to go. TL
Why not make an insurance claim from the time you traveled behind a semi trunk hauling gravel? :itsok:
because if i go claim free for three years (im about to finish year three) every year after, i get 25% of my total premium back since i have my two cars, my house, and life with them it amounts to a large cash back
No, I was thinking of using the clear bra to hide what is left after the touch up paint.. Got any tips for the dr colorchip?
according to their site it says: "Claim-Free means no paid claims of any type, other than Automobile towing and labor claims, Homeowner earthquake claims, or stolen identity claims." I'll ask my agent and double check...
A top notch body shop around here would do that for about $600 to $1000. There is no body work needed so its not going present any issues to them. Seems you need to check with some other shops.
Ralph i've used it on my Black Z, it's ok. But as you know us perfectionists are hard to please. The t-shirt method as mentioned would probably be your best bet. Then Clear bra it, and it should be pretty close to satisfactory. It's not perfect though, I built mine up and wetsanded it to get better results.
Pretty simple instructions to follow. Let the fluid do the work to remove the residue on the surrounding paint. Excessive rubbing just removes the paint from the chips. Anyone expecting chips and rash to magically disappear will be initially disappointed. With deeper chips it still works best to build 'em up and then use the 'thumb-smear' method. I got 'just OK' results first try. Major improvement over what it was but I was expecting a bit too much. Redid everything a second time and got much, much better results. Waited a couple of weeks before polishing and it all finished well. As the OP mentioned, if you wanted to build things up and wet sand I think you'd get an impressive result. Then again, if you're going to put a clear bra on it I s'pose that'd be moot. TL
Well i'm waiting for a local guy to return my call as he does it for the high end dealers in town...so hopefully he can get me taken care of..
mirrors: hood: headlight covers front bumper BTW: car does not have metallic paint... guy canceled on me so i went ahead and ordered a dr colorchip kit to do the whole front, hood, fenders, and mirrors
