I found this link on another forum that I moderate, and thought I would post up the link to see what people thought of this method. A look into the TW (TylorWeaver) Method of applying Tire Dressing - Car Care Forums: Meguiar's Online I wonder how this would really work. Thoughts/Opinions/Accussations welcome
Read that up on Pakshak forum, and like I said on there that is cool and all but alot of time just for tire dressing...idk...I can understand spending time on paint correction as that is a 2-3x a year deal but dressing is more than that and just cant justify that amount of time when i can just use White Pearl and get 3 weeks out of it and just have to spray and wipe and done. Interesting concept though.
cool concept indeed ... but I don't know if I would spend all that time only on the tires. Another issue that I'm concerned about is that there's a slight possibility of damaging the rim surface (painted) if the heat gun gets too close to the rim. I'm planning on getting a heat gun from HF to learn how to restore faded black trim. I will probably try this out when the wife is out of town ... lol
am i missing something? the tyre dressing i use already comes in a spray can, takes me about 10 seconds per wheel
That reminds me of the UK version of applying leather conditioner by heating it up with halogens to "open" the pores... Honestly its just someone else trying to make a name for himself by coming up with a revolutionary method for something or another...
If he would clean off all the old tire dressing he wouldn't have to go through all the useless bs. I am surprised someone just didn't tell him to clean the tire correctly then he wouldn't have to go through such a time consuming method.
I would rather spend the time cleaning the tire, wiping it with tar and glue remover and then dressing it with gloss it tire dressing.
intresting. now. maybe instead of doing this. maybe using tuf-shine instead since it lasts longer and doesn tneed to be reaplied as often. probably gona order that soon
Its not revolutionary...is it? I do this on plastics, and I know many other guys do as well. Not sure how effective it is on rubber, but it may not be too bad of an idea in the winter time.
I over inflate the tires by about 5-8 lbs. before applying the dressing in an attempt to stretch the rubber. It does seem to soak in better. I guess the heat treatment is worth a try too.
I think the guy is just trying to help... As with paint, interior, and wheels... theres always a good better best method... I know its always a time vs money thing, and I agree, I spend most time on the paint, too. But if I were one of these guys that are in the position where people leave there cars with them for more than a day and get paid accordingly, I would easily consider this method. And I think the point is to have the dressing get absorbed into the tire rather than just sitting on it of the surface (and wear out/off). That being said, i dont really have the time either... but for the odd one, I will do it... (my car!) Cheers.
