is the difference between washing mf towels with a microfiber wash, such as the one made by chemical guys, and a standard detergent like Tide really noticable or worth it?

im debating whether it is necessary for me to buy a microfiber wash and would like anybody else's opinion on the matter, thanks.

Some people find that MF wash leaves the MF softer and more fluffy. I use CG MF wash myself (detail image has it on sale right now) and love it. Thing is if you want to use Tide make sure you get the non-scented "free" one that does not have any conditioners in it that will coat the MF fibers and make them less absorbent. Is it worth it? I think it is thus I buy a gallon when on sale and last me a decent time, 2oz/large load.

If I wash my mf towels with detergent, I use All free and clear. Its free of everything and its pretty cheap.

I try to mainly wash with Micro-Restore.

I did get some of Danase's microfiber/pad wash. I used it last night. It worked really good. The bad new is, you cant get it anymore.

Wait til some place has a Free Shipping special on and then order some. It will save you some $$$$

I'm gonna try the CG stuff. I've grown dissatisfied with the performance of some of my old microfiber, and before throwing them away, it's worth a try.

Ones that dont soak up water anymore, get a 5 gallon bucket, fill it with hot water...put about 1 oz of Dawn Org (blue stuff) into it. Let MF soak for 5-10 min, agitate the MFs, let it soak for another 5-10 min. Then rinse them all out and wash them. They will start soaking up water. What I had to do other day on a few MFs.

a hot water soak with SGS and washed with micro restore is one combo i use that works well for restoring functionality and plushness especially to buffing and polishing towels.

Doesn't boiling them in water help, I think Nica has had good results with this

You can boil them. It works, but its a PITA if you have alot of towels.

I would recommend using soaking in something like Optimum Power Clean rather than Dawn. OPC works faster and rinses clean much quicker than Dawn (thick and must be dissolved to disperse evenly) especially if you use too much.

Hmm...yeah Dawn does take a few rinses...I will try OPC next time! I know last time I used Megs APC and SGS and it did not work as good as Dawn did.

I use some Vinegar in the wash cycle, it really fluffs them back up.

How often do you guys wash your drying towels? I have the weave type rying towels and was wondering, do I have to wash them each time after using them to dry the car? Thanks

I was all my MF after use so they are clean for the next time. Dont want any contamination that got picked up from the paint to scratch the car when i use them again. Also keeps them new longer as the fibers dont break down from being dirty and clean easier the faster you clean them after using them.

That's crazy. I was just looking at their website last night! They advertise on a local talk radio station, and I've often wondered if their stuff is any good. Maybe I'll give it a shot.

Just took my first load of MF washed with Charlie's Soap out of the dryer. I'm very, very pleased with the results. They're old Vroom drying towels, which had started to feel very thin and tired. I won't claim that they're now as plush as brand new towels would be, but they're MUCH fluffier than they were before I washed them. It's a big enough improvement that they're no longer "on the bubble" to get cut up into window towels or thrown away.

$17/gallon at Whole Foods. Charlie's Soap is a local company (NC) too, so that's kind of neat. I've got a load of clothing in there with it now.

You just need to get some blue dryer balls and that will help get them fluffy as well...

May have to try some out when I run out of CG...but I have mover a gallon left I think, ha.

Interesting about Charlie's, you have to wash out your washing machine with it at double-strength before using it with a load of laundry! :afro:

They have an APC too, and they put their MSDS's right on the same page as the product. I wonder if the W/F here has their stuff.

Yeah, I did that "clean your washing machine" step with some bath towels. Not sure if it made any difference,, but why not.

One annoyance with Charlie's - measuring it. The cap is really small, and basically useless to measure your soap use with. 1/8C is roughly 3 capfuls by my measure, and it's both tedious and spill-prone to use it. Charlie's website says to email them with questions and input, so I told them the cap needs improvement.
