... well these two videos will answer that question in detail! I explain why you should or should not worry about doing so.

One thing that I did in these videos was use a super abrasive polish by Meguiar's to do this demonstration (Meguiar's Diamond Cut). There are those of you who will think that this polish being more abrasive will cut your work in half and want to go get a bottle (instead of staying with the much safer alternative, Adam's Swirl & Haze Remover or SHR). Let me assure you that this is not a smart route to go because of the type of damage this stuff can do to your paint. You will eliminate one issue and be staring at a totally different type of damage that will require some know-how in order to remedy. Don't make that mistake. Stick with SHR which will leave your paint much more manageable using Adam's Fine Machine Polish (FMP) to remedy the aftermath of SHR.

Adam's Polishes (two of a few being SHR and FMP) have been engineered to work together to achieve effortless, outstanding results. Mixing them with other brands is for seriously experienced detailers, who know how to maximize a given product's potential. If that is not you, stick to products engineered to work together and are packaged to do so.

With that said, here are the videos!

Great vid. I would disagree to an extent.

If you have older thin paint, and you use say, a PC, a Green LC Pad, Menz IP, on a plastic body part...

    You'll burn through the paint.

Which is why videos like this for the total novice put people at risk for damaging their vehicles..

Videos similar to this, although obviously made with good intentions, might see someone associating safety with just the PC and thinking its OK to do similar poor habit with a 4inch pad or smaller with something aggressive on soft or thin paint.. I would hate to think what could happen.

i think its good that you take the time to post up you videos and tips and whatnot, but personally i think linking to your own sites where you sell products is borderline spamming. we have many great reputable vendors on this site that pay to advertise here. if you are somehow directly affiliated with adams and are allowed to make posts like this, i apologize and stand corrected.

ok i stand corrected and to junkman i apologize. its just the lack of any kind of certified DB manufacturer title and relatively new status on the forum threw me off.

No one in their right mind is going to do what I did in these videos to their car. Thus, these videos are to show that if you were to use common sense when operating the PC, you will not have to worry about damaging your paint. So far, I would have to say that 99% of the people who have watched them understand where I'm coming from.

I message I suppose I meant to get across was that with 4inch pads and speed 6 on the PC or any other ROB there are a few different strategies and relative safety measures that should be employed. I'm sure those who have used for 4inch pads, yourself included can see the greater amount of heat that gets built up quicker even when using 1inch per second passes. Perhaps the 99 percent of the people knew where you were coming from because many of them are already comfortable polishing and understand the limits and the safety and risks of polishing anything.

Well what if they, that 1 percent, run into a stubborn mark they want to remove? They saw the Junkman video with #85 and a PC where he stood on one spot, and they read all the time that 4inch pads correct easier and faster than 6.5 inch pads...

Like I said I would hate to see that 1 percent that think its perfectly safe to bear down on the PC/g110/PCXP with a 4inch orange pad strikethrough or toast some clear.

i burned my paint on my truck years ago with my p/c and a yellow cutting pad and optimums compouind. but i was leaning very hardin one spot. i removed the lettering off my truck . and it left a shadow of the name . so i figuerd i would just buff it out . but nothing worked . tryed polish first then went heavy.. and after leaning very hard in one spot i burned right threw the clear. woops. other then that the p/c is safe just be carefull dont do what i did ....

The both of you make the exact point that I want to make. That being, using the Adam's line of products will not yield that type of damage. The Swirl & Haze Remover is NOT going to burn the paint like that, period. Adam's doesn't have any wool pads so that is not a issue either. Adam's product line caters to the novice detailer which is why I use them in my videos. I'm not trying to teach veteran detailers, I'm going after the guys who just quit using the drive through car wash. That's what makes my videos safe to follow. In my garage, you'll find every kind of major buffer and polish on the market but only the safe stuff will show up in my videos. I don't make videos showing EVERYTHING that I do!

If you are really trying to make videos that are safe to watch you should not be showing people that you can lean on a pad like that with a product like that because there may be a few who take it the wrong way and end up causing damage.

Junkman if you title a video and a thread " Can You Damage Your Paint with the PC-7424XP? " and the message you are basically saying is a solid "NO" when in reality there are variables like trhland said where you can burn your paint, the message in the video should be changed. trhland's unfortunate situation from years ago is exactly what I was trying to get across to you...

trhland do you think you leaned on it like that because of the safety you thought the PC ultimately provided?

You and I will just have to agree to disagree. Like I said before, nearly everyone else gets it. If you are crazy enough to take a wool pad, some 3M Super Duty Rubbing Compound and lay on your paint like that, then you are in for a learning experience.

  16. getcha

    getcha Jedi Nuba

I never brought up wool or 3M extra duty.

I think trhland's unfortunate past experience is a prime example of why you shouldn't show people things that are "OK" in isolated situations such as your own even if it is for the sake of showing the "safety" of the PC. Eventually you will get burned with that practice. If nothing else, if it doesn't strikethrough or burn, you are in fact sacrificing paint that is limited to begin with on some cars..

I wouldn't encourage you to make a video on OEM paint on a soft and thin japanese car in a premeasured area. And I feel for the person that tests the method you have shown.

    Thanks for the video.
