I'm relatively new to detailing. For the past year, I've washed my 2008 A4 mostly at the car wash at the Shell station about once a week. The car wash left some type of film on the windshield (maybe it wax) that makes it hard to see out when it is raining (looks like the school bus windshield from the 1970's). A couple of weeks ago, I got lots of supplies from Detailer's Domain. I clayed the entire car, including the windshield, and I used Adam's glass cleaner on it. The glass is great when it is not raining, but when it is raining, the film is still there. Is there something you'd recommend I should apply to the windshield? I used rain-x back in the 1980's but it ruined some windshield wipers, so I haven't used it since then. I used the Lasso wax on the side and back windows and it worked great, but I was concerned about applying wax to the front windshield.
I have applied sealant to my windshield, I used Collinite 845 and actually really liked it. I didn't have to use my wipers for awhile hahaha
If the film is still there you will want to remove that using some kind of fine polish or glass polish (such as 1z glas polish or Duragloss Nu Glass). You could use a finishing polishing such as Meznerna 106FA. After you get the glass polished clay and use Adams and it will look great and will not have that film. Also clean the wiper blades with a mild APC solution.
Thanks. I have some 1z paint polish (but not the glas polish). Is it fine enough? If so, I'll hand polish the glass, clay it, and clean the glass and wiper blades.
