This was a detail I carried out last year on one of my personal favourite all time cars. The Ferrari Enzo, this one came by a bit of a surprise, I got a call from Tom at Paintshield asking me if I would mind popping over to help out with the very special car they were working on. They had been contacted by Marranellos and had been commissioned to produce an FXX style set of Graphics for one of their clients, the wheels had already been refurbished ready to complete the look. The decision was to use the Matt Black paintfilm, well you wouldn’t use regular vinyl on your Enzo! My brief was to put some life back into the paint as it was looking very slightly tired. It was already afternoon when I arrived, with the boys set to do the install the next day, I had to get cracking on. The car was carefully wiped down with ONR, and then a little spot of claying was required. Then out with the buffer. I knew there wasn’t time for a full correction but a definite improvement could be made. The main areas I concentrated on were to be the bonnet, roof, rear engine lid and the front and rear wings and doors. Correction, after having a good look round the car, It was obvious that the car had been machine polished before so extra care was called for, swirls were cleaning up nicely with Menzerna 203s but there was still quite a lot of deeper marks remaining. Especially the wing tops? This is the third Enzo that I’ve had the pleasure of working on and they always seem to suffer from deeper scratches and swirls there, maybe it’s over enthusiastic owners getting carried away when washing them? Time was getting on so I made a quick call to Dave at Sports Car Protection to talk through some ideas, This saw me step up to Menzerna IP on a Gloss It light cut pad (yellow I think?) with EVP prime to keep the temps down to get the worst marks out, followed up by SV Cleaner Fluid Pro on a 3m Yellow pad to remove any holograms and finish down the paint to a lovely shine, this saw a defect removal of 85-90% with a serious improvement in both gloss, depth and colour. The next morning saw the guys install the stripes, which transformed the car, Joe designed the kit from scratch with everything coming out pre-cut, so no cutting or trimming was required anywhere on the car keeping the paint mint. Plus getting the stripes on straight first time takes a serious amount of skill. With the stripes down I could finish up any machining, clean up and wax the car ready to be transported back to Marranellos. Front and rear bumpers got polished by hand with Strong then Medium Cleaner Fluid, then Black Hole Glaze, machined panels got SV cleaner fluid. Brinkman shot. The whole car then got a coat of Concorso wax, one of my favourites, whilst that was curing I gave the interior a quick wipe down and cleaned the glass with Lusso glass polish. Ferrari engine porn Wax removed, there was just enough time for a second coat of Concorso applied to the wing tops, which gave the car a further lift, I finished it off with a final buff of cold Quick Finish. The paintfilm looked amazing with a true satin finish you can only really get with paint rather than a laminated vinyl, set against the freshly polished and waxed paint the car looked awesome! The car was then taken outside for a few final pictures. Enjoy Favourite pic. Thanks for reading. Kind regards, Roy.
Roy..thanks for posting. Love your work! The Enzo is gorgeous. I love the stripe but would prefer it just down the middle I think....maybe if I could afford one I could talk..hahhaha. Lovely work!
:yikes: Great job...I LOVE Ferrari's and LOVE the Enzo...great job on the car and stripe looks nice...really made my day seeing this car LOL....Carlos will flip when he looks at this thread.
Thanks for the comments guys :thumb: Nice isn’t it, I did a little work on that before they carried out the ppf install, brave choice of colour, but I think it really suits the car There’s always some cool cars being worked on at Tom’s, they recently did a full matt black wrap on a R35 Skyline. Regards, Roy.
i like how those black stripes are tastefully done ......i kno it took hrs to get it done i like it ..:applause:
I am normally not a fan of stripes but that looks very nice and clean. Great job. That red looks nice outside.
What a great car.. At 1st I didn't expect to favor the stripes but in the end I thought it looked really nice!
