I'm looking around trying to find a safe wheel cleaner for sensitive and expensive wheels I might encounter and was drawn in by the "P21s VS Diablo" thread. Now with the mixed reviews of Diablo I didnt want to get a gal of something I might not even like or think is effective. So I looked into the sample sizes and stumble onto something strange. A 16oz bottle of Diablo is only $15. Ok thats understandable but then I looked at sticky wheel gel and its $16? :shead:

Now Im no rocket scientist but I dont understand how a gal of Diablo is $64 and a gal of Sticky wheel gel is $36. While in the 16oz offerings Diablo is $1 less than stick gel. I gave CG a call but I got a machine.

ha, Diablo is on "special" so its cheaper than it should be I guess....who knows?!? Have you looked at Griots garage wheel cleaner? Suppose to be as safe as p21s and cheap. AG has free shipping till 12 EST and some reviews up on there forum.

CG is known to do some odd things, to say the least. "Errors" like this are typical, unless in this case they are trying to push the product since it essentially just came out.

I did look at Griots, but I'm more attracted to gel type products. Since safe wheel cleaners use detergents to clean instead of acidic, caustic or basic chemicals I find they need more dwell time and the clingyness of gels help a lot.

Yea this is really weird. I can understand that they might be trying to push an item since its still fairly new but typically when you push a product you lower the price and not increase it dramatically like they did.

Good point on the price differences. Who knows at this point... I agree that Griot's wheel cleaner is a good safe product. It is great for maintained wheels but not so much for any baked on issues. P21S gel certainly works great when allowed to dwell on the brake dust.

Diablo is legit.... No doubt, also autoglym custom wheel cleaner is bomb as well and safe on EVERYTHING! I used on teflon coated wheels and they turned out great

+1 on Autoglym CWC from Ken @ Autowerkes Exclusive. It is a gel, comes out really thick, foamy, and clingy. Just as good, if not better, than p21s and if you buy a gallon is half the price. What's not to love?

It can also be diluted 1:1 for cleaner wheels

I use the 1000ml bottle of P21 gel with a sray trigger. It costs $23, right? Isn't 1000ml over 32oz(33.8oz to be exact)? So you are getting over 32oz for $24 compared to 16oz of diablo for $15. So the P21 would be more cost effective.

The reg P21(non gel) is $20 for 33.8oz. A 1.32 gallon is around $90 for the reg. That's a gallon plus 40oz. The cost isn't that much different from the diablo.

The big difference though is that Diablo is intended to be diluted prior to use. So assuming you go with 3:1 dilution the Diablo solution becomes much more cost friendly than P21S.

Then I stand corrected. I just noticed that. Upon reading I see people are doing a 6:1 also. what ratio are most people using? The 3:1 or 6:1? Or I guess anywhere in-between?

I think 3:1 is like P21S gel as far as strength goes, not exactly sure. I'm not sure how this is in italics either, but I like it.

Yea it's a liquid for me as well. I've noticed I have the "older" canister, but I don't think they changed the formula.

AG CWC is not a gel, however it foams like crazy allowing it to sit on wheels longer. Also, due to the faom you don't use very much and at $45 for 5 liters its hard to beat.
