A friend at work booked in his Mustang for an outside only job. I guess I was thinking it was going to be the old style so when it showed up, I was shocked. It's an '05 and has these amazing Zenetti wheels that absolutely make the car. To boot, it's been modded and the exhaust is just nasty loud and proud. I fell in love with this car and I'm usually not one for 'stangs at all. It's been repainted but was done well. The paint was quite thick so any correction needed was done without concern. It corrected very easily once I got the right combination. The paint was actually quite hard. I went up 4 pad aggressive levels and 2 polish levels till I got it where I wanted it.

TIP AT A GLANCE: I found that with these wheels, the chrome was in such good shape I did not dare to use Autosol so I used XMT30. THIS STUFF ROCKS ON CHROME! I know I have used it before, but it bears repeating. If you have really good chrome, or get your chrome to a good level, break out your XMT 360 and give 'er a go.

    The Process:

    Wash/Wheels/Wells/Tires:

Wheels were cleaned with Zep Citrus and soft brushes (the set from Ken) with the barrels getting done with the EZ brush.
Tires were cleaned with Zep purple.
Wells were cleaned with Zep citrus.
Car foamed with DG 901 followed by 2 bm wash.

    Paint:

Clayed with Riccardo yellow (put in the microwave several times b/c it was not pliable with the garage being around 60 degrees).
Compounded with Presta UCCL with orange flat pad and rotary. This was very good at removing any and all flaws and yet finished down beautifully...I was not expecting that with the orange pad..it's quickly becoming one of my fave's.
Polished with DG 501 by hand.
    Sealed with DG 601/105 combo.
Detail spray with AW the following day.

    Head/Tail Lights:

Polished by hand with DG plastic polish

    Wheels/Tires:

I spent a lot more time than normal on these wheels, but they are so damned nice and really make the car that I wanted them to look incredible.
They got hand polished with XMT 360 on the faces as well as the barrels! I have never polished the barrels before with the wheel on a car, but there was room so why not? I was very pleased at how they came out. The wheels then got sealed with an experimental DG clear seal that works wonders on chrome. The customer was blown away by how they looked!
Tires were dressed with DP gel.

    Chrome Tips:
Cleaned with Autosol and mf followed up with XMT360 and mf.

    Glass:

    Clayed with Riccardo yellow.
Cleaned with Zep and then treated with Rain Repel (on outside).

    Flat black trim:

This was the car that I looked for feedback for the flat black painted portions, namely the hood and the spoiler. After some trial and error, DG 501 did a fantastic job on them (done by hand). It kept the flat look but made it very clean looking as well as the added protection it gives as well. The flat sections were not sealed with anything else other than the 501.

Both inside afters and outside were taken...enjoy...

Duragloss 501, huh? Interesting. I appreciate you posting this, as I've been curious about this new flat black trend for a little while. Would you recommend applying it with a PC by chance?

Thanks very much, I appreciate the feedback. :)

Thanks so much. I've been lucky with the cars I've had lately.

I knew this car was coming and wanted to prepare for the flat black so I posted requesting some feedback a few days ago. I followed the advice of Ken and taped off the flat section whilst polishing the red. I tried a clear sealant on the leading edge as was suggested, but it gave it too much of a shine. I then tried the 501 b/c that's what I usually use on the flat wide window mouldings and I was very pleased with the result. I would not bother with the pc b/c for one it is very quick to do that small of a section but even more importantly is that I would avoid generating any heat which the pc would do. I would not take any chances of polishing the paint per se rather than cleaning it which is what the 501 does by hand. Hope that helps. Make sure you post up yours when you do it.:picture:

Love it richy! You did some incredible work and I'll chalk up the 501 on flat black to my memory banks! Funny that 501 seems to work on EVERYTHING it's tried on! Has to be one of the most versatile products on the market! Oh and don't you just love the sound of a Mustang with a good exhaust!
