Storing products in a refrigerator or wine cooler adds to the elitist or exclusivity factor, as far as the contents are concerned it has no merit from a chemical standpoint :sorry: Car care products should not be stored at temperatures below 35 - 40oF, if they freeze they will become unstable and therefore unusable, ideal storage temperature range- 50- 75oF with an average humidity range. Most car care products have a ‘useful life’ of approximately 2-3 years provided they are stored as above. Do not store at temperature extremes (below 40 – over 80.0F +) as heat will destabilise emulsified products (wax, polymer sealants, polishes, etc) and avoid extreme temperature swings as the chemicals will become unstable. Most car care products (including Polymers) will separate and are no longer usable after being subjected to freezing temperatures The chemical composition of waxes rarely ever change regardless of what form it is in, whether it is melted to a semi-liquid or remains as a semi-solid. Temperature has little to no effect as far as inhibiting the shelf life of wax, a cool temperatures and constant humidity will slow the evaporation of solvents from the wax, thus keeping the wax softer and easier to use over a longer period of time. Do not allow to freeze and avoid temperature swings
Isn't this post a little contradictive? I mean I understand your point that you don't have to store them in a wine cooler/refrigerator but then you say the best thing for car care products is to avoid temperature swings. Well wouldn't a device that maintains a "constant" temperature and humidity level be the perfect option then?? If many are like myself, and the majority of your products are stored in a garage, wouldn't it prove prudent to store waxes that can exceed hundreds of dollars in value in a climate controlled enviroment such as a wine cooler or refrigerator?
Agreed. It might be a constant temperature when you store it but every time you take it out to use it it's going to go from really cold to at least warm. There is no need to keep it in a fridge.
i would love to keep mine in the garage all year round. living in michigan i would either need to a.) put them in a fridge / wine cooler b.) put them in a semi heated cabinet for winter (i'm thinking like disposable hand warmers ) c.) keep them cool in the summer. (design unknonw) so for now i'll just keep them in the basement in their little tote that i have for them. in the summer i'll leave out all the goofy stuff like Shampoo, wheel cleaner, dressing, APC, QD, etc. etc. but i'll keep my polishes / LSP's etc in the basement. this does bring up a good point and a semi need for fridge in the garage
You really don't need to do that man. I leave mine in the garage all year long, everything. Then in the winter, when the temps start freezing, I bring them into the house. I've operated like that forever.
all my stuff is either under my bad in storage or in my closet in bin for when i need to take everything and go detail
Bob thanks for the tip that is actually what i have done for ever too. minus the bringing into the house when the waters in the garage started to freeze. i'm not a pro though and they are used so little that i worry. what about the high heat in the summer?
Yeah, there really is no need to worry. Just shake them up good before you use them. The heat won't do anything to them. It might make a carnauba paste wax a little softer but that is all.
Of course the more I learn, the more I realize what I don’t know. Then at some point, I hope to have learned enough to realize; that I know nothing at all
If you care about frosty mugs and cold beer, I mean detailers fuel, you most certainly need that fridge!
