It just amazes me what people can do to there brand new vehicles and what you can do to bring them back. I thought this one would never have come back the way it did. You did it again and in 13 hours. Thats got to be some kind of record. Heck, I can't ever wash and put two coats of LSP in 13 hours nevermind anything else on that beast. Thanks for sharing another great detail and write up...:thumb:
Awesome work Ken, terrific turnaround I will try post some pics later of a black SLK 55 we did this past weekend, we also used the 3M green pad with menz SIP and it finished down flawlessly while offering terrific correction
Awesome work as usual Ken. You do some damn fine work and your customers are lucky to have you to rescue their cars!
Night and Day! You must have hustled every minute of those 13 hours for a result like that. Thanks for sharing
Awesome job as always on that very large SUV, I agree you made some real great time on that beast it looks really good in the completed shots.
I didn't measure after but from experience I would guess it may have removed 1 or 2 microns. I didn't use a compound and almost all of it came out with the first pass. You could probably start a new thread and debate this all day long but IMHO, no. I polished cars for years before clay was available here with no ill effects. Add to that the fact that I also foam the vehicle and rinse thoroughly before washing and any loose particles are more than likely removed. Any remaining contaminants will likely be smoothed over a bit but without a very aggressive compound, the chances of a foam pad pulling contaminants off the paint are pretty slim. Outside temp that day was 2C (36F) The garage is heated though so it's all good. Unfortunately I do probably 20 -30 SUVs for every 1 car I do so I have a system for doing these things efficiently.
wow! nice work! it probably looks better than it did when it rolled off the lot brand new! :applause:
Was supposed to go over it this week. Maybe next week when the owners back in town. Will keep you posted.
FANTASTIC WORK!! I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to ask if this was done in the customer's garage and I assume it was, and how many of your customers let you use their garage if need be? That never occurred to me as a possibility. Also, you mentioned you had a system for doing these big cars efficiently, can you share a few pointers on how you save time without compromising quality? Thanks for your help, and for many great write ups. Brian
Yes I used the clients garage. I seldom go to a clients house unless I have the use of a garage that is free from clutter. Its not worth the hassle. The only system I use is to do every car the exact same way. Do not change your routine. Routines are what allow you to get a bit faster as you learn to do things without having to think about it and you will forget things less. Your goal should not be to save time, it should be to make sure the vehicle is done to the best of your abilities. Don't watch the clock. You're done when its right. Only time and experience will cut down on the time it takes to do the job .
