Towels for wax/polish removal?

I've decided I don't like the impossibly thick towels that so many companies are marketing. I find they bunch up in my hand when I'm trying to remove product. So, I've mostly abandoned them, except to occasionally use them with a QD, or to dust with.

On the basis of my current usage patterns, I could get by with the following:

    - Super Fly towels for paintwork
    - Target Vroom brand drying towels for drying
    - Costco yellow towels for almost everything else
    - Maybe three impossibly thick, plush towels, just to have them around

    That's it. I really think that's all I need.

Sooner than later, I'm going to toss every last one of my Ubers. They're old, so perhaps Phil has changed suppliers since I got mine, but the linting is unbelievable. Even straight out of the wrapper, or after taking them out of the washing machine for the first time.

Hands down, Super Flys are the best, most versatile towels I've ever used. Durable as heck, too, and they don't lint. Next time Justin puts them on sale, I'm ordering a bunch more of them.

Only thing I dont like about the new Super Fly is the silk boarder, I liked the older MF boarder better...

Yeah, I was disappointed to learn of the silk border, but I'll still buy them again. The stitched border on the old ones was perfectly fine. The silk ones, I suppose, look fancy...

You can't go wrong with the Super Fly towel, but my favorite and highest quality towel I carry is the Gladiator towel.

FWIW, I really like Meguiar's Ultimate Wipes for removing wax. They are unlike any other microfiber towel I have tried (so far), and I have tried towels from several different sources. The Ultimate Wipes just seem to work better. It has a very short nap on both sides.

I am not crazy about those super plush/shaggy ones. They are a bit too grippy when trying to buff off stubborn waxes and polishes and they don't seem to be as absorbent as I would like.

Thanks for all the posts so far, I have really been able to narrow down what I want and what I should be looking for.

How do you guys feel about silk borders?

I see that a lot of you guys are very specific about towels and their tasks whereas I tend to try to assign more than one task per towel.

I currently have it organized like this:
3 dozen DI All-Purpose Towels for buffing and interior cleaning.
2 dozen SM Arnold Select 16x24 Waffle Weave Towels for QDing and glass cleaning.
1 dozen AG Microfiber Waffle Weave 24x29 Drying Towels for drying.
1 dozen Walmart Microfibers for rims and tires.

Looking to add 12 towels for wax removal to the existing system. Everything else will stay the same.

I prefer the edgeless ones myself. I do have some with silk borders but the "lumpy" edge annoys the crap out of me.

Wow all of these different mf towels to choose from and here I am feeling sorry for myself because I can't make up my mind whether to use the Fruit Of The Loom with the hole under the armpit or the Haines with the chronic ring around the collar. LOL :sorry:
    Seriously
I like the KISS method that Dana suggested :thumb:

Is that the one they supply with their OTC clay bar kit? I remember buying one of their clay kits a long time ago, because I was out of whatever other clay I was using at the time, and the towel it came with was really, really nice. IIRC, it was larger than the usual 16x16, short nap, kind of beige in color, and worked exceptionally well. I've often wondered if they can be purchased separately from the clay bar kit.

Maybe I'm thinking of these, which they call "Supreme Shine" towels?

Supreme Shine is the OTC MF, it is nice quality MF and large. the Ultimate is from the pro file it is white with black boarder. Nice thin nap but glides over paint really. I have 2 but are on wheel duty bc of age, but I have 10 coming in, :) .

Sup. Shine make for a good polish MF, it is large so you can fold it many time and has just the right thickness of nap so its not too thick were its a paint to remove polish but not too thin were you may run the chance in marring or "cloging" the MF with polish.

I like short nap towels for polish/wax removal but others obviously. I like the short naps because they do not tend to roll as much when folded. I like the Meg's SS towel too.
