Hey guys, When I bought my 335i, the front bumper had little bits of rash on it from the previous owner. The back bumper was also dinged up from license plate brackets. Well, I decided I wanted to sell the car the last couple weeks and thought I would get the bumpers sprayed fresh for the next owner. I ended up getting this done at Dent Werx (DENT WERX PAINTLESS DENT REMOVAL) a shop local to my house. I took it to the guy and asked for an estimate, and asked if he was good with matching the bmw oem orange peel. He said yeah, yeah, yeah and I left the car with him. I picked it up this past Saturday and I'm not quite sure what to think of the job he did. I'm not sure if I should keep it, take it back, or have a professional bodyshop guy/detailer try to wetsand it and fix it. The front bumper isn't as bad as the rear bumper is. And mainly it's only the sides of the rear bumper that look pretty bad. And FYI my final price was $600. What are your guys thoughts? Thanks, Mike Rear Bumper Front Bumper
I would take it back and give him a chance to correct it (free of charge of course) If that doesn't work (either he refuses or screws it up worse) I would have another shop/detailer correct it and send the bill to his shop. I would have refused to accept the car in that condition.
Like lifemal said if your weren't happy with it, I wouldn't have accepted it. Not that its your fault but I wouldn't have said can you match this orange peel. I would definitely take it back to him.
Also, after ignoring the orange peel and having a second look. They did a terrible job lining up the panel. Fairly uneven. Have them pull it off, wetsand that orange peel down and polish it. then re-hang the bumper properly.
kinda off topic, but can you explain a little on what you mean by send the bill to his shop? like wouldn't he just ignore it and not pay it?
If you're not happy with the work, and the refuse or are unable to fix it, you should be able to make this happen. I instructed a friend to do it and they ended up paying for most of it. He still wasn't satisfied but at least it was better then him paying for it twice. Just be sure to let both shops know what is going to happen. They will probably want their customer to be happy. It will work if you have the attitude/approach.
but let's say if you go back to the first shop and tell them that you're not happy, and you can show them why you're not happy with the right approach but they're still not making it right, and you keep going back, and they keep saying they'd fix it but they don't then what can you do?
Thanks for the comments guys. I talked to the shop owner this morning and I'm taking it back. He seemed pretty willing to make it right so we'll see how it goes. If it's not perfect, I'll mention that I'm taking it to this other shop to get fixed and he will receive the bill..
