I currently have an Olympus Stylus 1030 SW. While its great for taking camping, any water activities, and any other stuff that involves dust, dirt and water...I want something a little more substantial for car photographs, etc.

Im looking for a decent used camera. I don't really want to drop a ton of money on it. I want something with a good zoom, and something that I can change picture settings on. Any suggestions on what to look for, and where to buy?

    Thanks!

This depends on how much you'll want to spend. I suggest getting something along the lines of a nikon d70/80 or even a canon 20/30/40d. Afterwards you're better off spending the rest of your funds on a good lens.

There isn't a huge differenc between 6-10 megapixels and the sensors on all those are pretty much the same. They will take about the same pictures. The stronger variables are the photographer and the lens.

I agree with Spec on this. Megapixels doesnt make a difference. The shooter does. Getting a cheaper camera and spending money on lenses and such is a better bet. I persoanlly dont have a DSLR, but I am keeping factors like this in my head for when the time comes.

I nikon D40 or D60 might be good bets for you.

Don't know if I agrre their isn't much difference in the megapixels unless we are talking primarily about posting online pics. Then, yeah pretty much anything is good enough for posting online!!

Megapixels really don't make a difference because almost none of us are making billboards or full size posters. The majority of the time we're using them for 4x6's and desktop wallpapers which will never fully utilize all the megapixels were given in most of the recent cameras on the market.

If you venture into the DSLR consumer or prosumer market, just stick with a cropped sensor body (to save money) or cheaper full frame body and quality lenses. Also, photography lessons will help immensely, more so than buying a really expensive body.

Good luck in finding what works for you. :)

My dad has an old Pentax ME Super....seems like they were pretty good, and high dollar for their time, plus he has a TON of lenses for it...

Whats the level of difficulty involved in developing your own film?

I have a D40 and love it. Looking used, try Buy & Sell New & Used Cameras – Canon, Nikon, Hasselblad, Leica & More - KEH.com. I have always had very good luck with them. Might also look for a LN or EXC D50.
