Auto-Zone, Pep-Boys, Home Depot, Lowes all will have 5 gallon buckets. You could also try grocery store that has a bucket and they have 5 gallon buckets that icing comes in and may give you one for free.

Note that the 5 gal orange home depot bucket, the grit guard does not fit all the way down.

Go to bakeries and ask them for it, they usually have them laying around empty.

It still goes down most of the way...maybe under an inch.

The semi translucent ones from Home Depot are cheap and the Grit Guard fits like a glove in them.

i use these and like the fact that it sticks up about an inch or so from the bottom. just that much more water under it for the dirt to settle into.

Home Depot buckets don't fit grit guard inserts all the way. You'd be better off with Pep Boy's bucket, it's only $5.

I used my Homer bucket wit the grit guard and seems to go almost (maybe 1/16 inch off the bottom). The bottom of the grit guard has an arch shape so water is not truly compartmentalized as one would think anyway. It seems to occupy about 1 gallon of water.
