What dilution do you guys find to be the strongest for Meguiar's Wheel Brightener? I've been using it basically straight.

    I use it 4:1 or 3:1

Is that better than full strength? I know it's acidic and mixed with water to become stronger, I think.

I believe you've got it backwards. The more water you add the weaker it gets. I use mine 4:1. I've never needed it to be any stronger than that. The dirtiest wheels I've ever seen come clean in a blink even at 4:1.

Add water = higher pH, more basic; as you are lowering the concentration of H+ ions.

That is a bit deceiving as it is acidic so a higher PH is going to be closer to neutral :D

yes this is correct, and it is technically pH not PH :graduation:. haha just messing with ya.

One time I used it I used it at something around 4-5:1 and works pretty well at baked on dust in the wheel barrels.

Wheel brightener is some strong stuff, it is acid based and thus should be used on wheels that acid based cleaners are safe for such as coated wheels. It is something you would use as a last resort on some really horrible wheels.

On the other side APC is safe to use on most wheels, other than uncoated Al wheels I think, and will take care of 90-95% of the wheels one may come across if detailing.

I have used it at 4:1 on lots of wheels with no ill effects. Of course I dont let it sit too long, and all my brushes are in a bucket of soap and water, so that helps keep this stuff from doing any damage.

One thing I think I need to point out to ahwil_lim:

DO NOT USE WHEEL BRIGHTENER AS A GENERAL APC!

I see you had asked if you could use it as such in your previous post. Don't use it on your paint. Don't use it on interiors. Only use it on wheels, and only on the wheel types that can handle an acid-based cleaner.

You're probably right, but I thought there were some left over incomplete compounds (ligands?) that if you added H2O it would take the Hydrogen molecules and make it stronger. I swear I've heard this somewhere. This is specifically for Wheel Brightener.

Here's a series of shots of a Volvo wheel with harden brake dust baked on in the corners not a totally neglected example overall.
1/2 /3 are before application , shot 4 is results with CG Diablo straight dwelled for 2 mins very lightly brushed. Good brake dust and some harden brake dust removed but not perfect, Last shot 5
show Megs WB Diluted 4:1 , 45+ secs - brushed. Much better results.

My take on these two products CG Diablo smells OK is pH safe for all wheels and with alot of brushing can work for most wheels but its not going to remove the "baked on Coked" stuff regardless of dwelling time or brushing good for maintenance washing.
Megs is your go to product for the neglected European vehicles Benz BMW Audi , soft brake pad
cars.. When I use Megs I wear gloves and safety glasses . It neutralize instantly with wash off water but still smells bad. Never used Megs APC curious how it would compare to CG Diablo on wheels like these.
