I want a high quality smallish camera (as opposed to a DSLR). I like features but find I use a smaller camera more often without hauling around a big camera bag. A friend had a G10 that I looked at and I liked the fit and feel of the unit. It has a hot shoe and a large LCD screen and a nice build quality. Anyone here have any experience with a G10?
I don't own a G10. But was seriously thinking, testing and comparing it with the Panasonic LX3. I ended up getting the LX3 due to the size. And at the time of purchase, the G10 was actually cheaper than the LX3 in Canada. G11 is just around the corner. Less megapixels. But what I do like about the G10 (and G11 since they're almost the same exterior) is the feel of it in my hands... gives me that rangefinder rugged feel. Like SpecC have mentioned, the S90 is one of the newer models from Canon which targets the LX3. Having said that, both the LX3 and G10 were introduced over a year ago. If you don't mind the size of the G10 and don't really have a budget "ceiling", might be worth looking at the micro 4/3 cameras such as the Olympus EP-1 or the Panasonic GF-1. Relatively small body but with the capability of lens interchangability (spelling?). But they're a bit more pricey.
i own a g10 and hands down its a great camera the video recording on it is bar none combined with the 16gb card i have in it equals nothing but endless photo's and videos. the battery on it is amazing. i havent charged mine in over a month and ive taken atleast 30-40 mins of vids with over 100 plus shots. here are some the photos it can take. LOL!!! ahahah im looking to sell mine for $400 shipped without the card. includes everything box etc etc. im looking to get a slr not sure which one but one of them out there. im not a photographer by no means i took most these shots using auto loll. it is a excellent camera though.
I did look at the EP_1 as you suggested...looks like a nice unit. Appreciate the info...As bad as this might sound in a photo thread, I am not interested in lens interchangability and the gadget bag full of lens and flashes/filters and stuff...been there with my old Canon AE1. I found i took more pictures that meant something with my point and shoot Finepix because it is always handy and ready to go without a big production. I am leaning towards the G11 for now seems improved over the G10 at lower light levels due to the reduction in mega pixels. Cheers
From the reviews I read, it is a great camera (one of the best in the lab tests) with good light. It's weakness was low light and higher ISO. If you are not using high ISO, it would be a great camera.
