I was talking to Aaron this evening about a process I decided to give a whirl while up here in the thin air. I think it may have been on DB I've seen someone checking paint thickness using a laser attached to a tripod. So, I set it up, pointed the laser at a spot on the bonnet of the DB9 and took measurement at this exact spot. From there, did my correction and took another measurement at that same identical spot...3 microns gone. While in this process, the client brings out a couple beers, watches and inquires about what it is I'm doing. When I explain, he tells me the last "detailer" didn't use a PTG. I explain the risk involved by not recording paint thickness and communicate, IMO, how reckless it is to not take this into consideration. Before I call it a night, two of his buddies arrive after receiving his phone call. I fear I may be here for another week???!!!:yikes:

Good for the client and his cars. Means I will likely be spending more time in the hills??!!

Yep. That's always been my thinking...gotta really seek out the defects!! Rarely find these types of cars truly requiring full correction!!!
It's nice when you are here the time of year Colorado has much to offer - ski season but, I miss surfing!!!!
A lot of them just don't get it!!

I head to TX couple times a year for work - Austin and The Metroplex. There's plenty of wealthy hillbillies in your neck of the woods!!! And, the added bonus of Whataburger, Rudy.s and Joe T Garcias!!! Problem being, if I lived in TX., my svelt 33" waist would turn into some 40+" spare tire!!!!!:thud: Too muchh good food!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The laser idea is a wicked idea, I've used this a few times...actually I 'borrowed' the idea from the UK folks :thumb:

Any who, the laser idea works incredibly well for accurately measuring exactly how much clear coat your removing and it's always shocking to see what a heavy compound will do to the clear coat

Agreed!!!! I always took measurements and gathered 1-3 um were removed. Now I know exactly how much comes off!
