i don't know what my wife did to the computer, but before if you had 4 or 5 open windows and minimized them, they would sit side by side at the bottom. Now there is one tab with a drop-down button showing the number of minimized windows. We are running vista. How do I go back to how I had it before?

From the top of my head.

Right clcik on the task bar --> properties --> taskbar tab --> look for something that says grouping/combine. --> uncheck/turn off

I know for sure that it's somewhere in the properties window (after right click).

    I'm using win7, so it's slightly different.

Right click on the task bar, properties, then task bar buttons should have a drop down that says something like combine tabs or something of that nature. I am on a Win7 comp so do not know if it is the exact same but in that menu it should have something of that nature.

I am a mac user now, but would a system restore from prior point of time do the trick? Had a dell and would use that method sometimes.

Right click on the task bar, click Properties, uncheck "group similar taskbar buttons". Done.

Thanks for the responses, but they're still grouped in the right hand lower corner just outside of the button bar or whatever it's called. There's an up and down arrow for moving between them now.

umm, try unlocking the task bar --> right click on task bar --> click "unlock/lock"

Then there should be a little vertical bar that appears next to the icon ( || ) something like that. You can click on it and move it to the left. Once you do that, lock the taskbar.

Hmm, so you see a vertical bar that is light? If so when you put your mouse over it do you see a arrow pointing left/right? If so move that to the left. If you do not see a line, right click on task bar, click unlock task bar, then see if the line is all the way to the right, if so move it to the left. Let me know if you get confused I can try to get some pics.

That's got it!! Thanks so much. I know it's just a little silly thing, but it was driving me nuts (OK, an admittedly short drive!) :)

    1) Tell wife to go into the kitchen
    2) Buy a new computer
    3) Sit back and enjoy life

Not if the quick task bar was expanded so much that only one or two could be seen then it starts to group them if it cant show them because it bars would get too small.

The cool thing is she gets a new one from work every 2 years or so. Normally she does not touch this one. Thanks again for all your help!!:hippie:
