I was just wondering if my Audi's finish truly is much softer than my Chrysler 300. My A4 and SRT8 are the same age but the A4 seems to be a scratch magnet. I know the Jet black on my A4 will show more than the Silver Steel on the SRT8 but sheesh. Any input from the pro's that are 'in the know'? I did read in a post that MB and at the time DCX were using a harder clear. Wasn't sure if that is why my 2006 SRT8 seems so hard to scratch. thanks
What year is your Audi? From every VW/Audi car I have seen, worked on, owners I have talked to say the clear is hard as nails. BUT, it will scratch/mar easily...yes it is a hard clear and thus hard to correct and need some serous umph behind it, but it will scratch pretty easily as I have found from my GTI. I dont know about Chrysler...so can not say anything there but if your Audi is like every other modern VAG car then it is a hard clear, but easy to scratch...
what year is the Audi? The Audi might be harder than the Chrysler. Not sure when Damlier gave up the ghost on Mopar. Maybe it was after your car was built?
ive worked on audis from a pretty wide variety of years from the B5 chassis until the present B8's, and from my experience the clear on audis is some of the hardest ive ever dealt with, period. but like agpatel said, it seems to scratch/swirl/marr relatively easily for some reason. i've even had microfibers induce micromarring on an audi clear before. not very experienced with chryslers though.
2007 Audi A4 - Jet Black and 2006 Chrysler 300C SRT8 - Silver Steel (the darker silver / gun metal looking color) the amount of oxidation / pitting on my Audi front and rear bumpers is unreal. Next wash i'll get some pics up for you guys to tell me if i have a lemon
I am going to assume you have the very hard clear on the Audi as most if not all modern VAG cars I have seen detailed have said it was a hard clear and from personal experience. The harder clear is not very scratch resistant, but with this hardness comes a higher fracture rate thus you will get chips, pitting, ext easier then a softer clear. Would not mind seeing some pics next time just to see the type of pitting you have and compare it to mine. I have a 06 GTI MkV with apx 60k miles on it and it does have some minor pitting on the hood.
Sure thing it is cold as all get out here lately (and no sun light by time i get home) so it will be sunday afternoon before i get you some pics.
