I'm getting ready to do my fall prep on the daily drive and had a question about layering (Newbie here....again).

After my correction I will be using FK1000P as my winter sealant and want to put down a couple layers (2 maybe 3).

My question is: Given FK1000P's cure time is ~24 hours, what do you do to prep the finish before applying the additional layer(s)?

I live in a condo and dust accumulates on the ride after just 4 or 5 hours and on the off chance I need to use the DD during the cure time I'd like to know what is the best manner to prep the finish for the additional layers. I was thinking an ONR wash, but I read somewhere that ONR does leave some polymers on the finish so I didn't know if that would cause any issues. Could I just QD with FK425 if its only light dust ?

    Thanks in advance.

I usually give it a wipe down with Poorboy's Spray & Wipe, but I'm sure an ONR wash would have the same effect.

If it's just a light dust and no more, I think you would be fine with 425, but don't push it.

I agree. With just light dust you may just get away with a QD wipedown.

Use a wool duster to remove the majority of the dust then go over with a pure QD, one that does not leave protection behind or if it i does it is very little that does not hurt wax film bonding. ONR diluted or QD mix is perfect for his as the little amount of polymers that re left behind will "dissolve" when you apply the wax via the solvents in the wax.

I dont like to use QD because of the protection it leaves behind makes me feel like it can hurt film bonding. In most cases I just do a quick foam and wash and apply a second layer after 48 hrs or sometimes even a week if I get busy.

Thanks everyone, I have now finalized my game plan. Much, much appreciated.
